trish1c Posted December 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2009 We're trying to be budget conscious this trip. Is there some place we can go hang on a beach & maybe see some fish for a good price . . . I'm thinking cost of the taxi there & back total < $20? TIA. peabody99 Posted December 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2009 I see you did not get anything here, but have you had any luck getting this info? I will be looking for the same info If I book a cruise with this port
mariaw8889 Posted December 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 18, 2009 check out this link. We are planning on taking the water taxi to the split at Caye Caulker in April to snorkel. From what I have read, it seems to be the best snorkeling from shore in the area. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1027300
OttoCal Posted December 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 18, 2009 Hi Trish, I don't think you will find this from Belize City. There isn't a beach nearby that I know of that you can get to for that price. The sea is not easily accessible from BC- yes, it is right on the water, but with high sea walls and really rocky shores, not the type to swim from. If you do the Caye Caulker idea suggested above, the cost to get there is approx. $15 round trip per person on the water taxi, and pay attention to the time, and never never take the last possible water taxi back to port- always plan to take the 2nd to last in case of any problems. It is 45 minutes each way, and about a 10 minute walk on Caye Caulker to 'The Split' which is the area of the island where you can snorkel without a boat. The beach at The Split is teeny tiny. There are beautiful beaches in Belize, they just aren't very easily or inexpensively reachable from Belize City. :o
