ausbod Posted December 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Does HAL provide a shuttle service between ship and city/town centre if the port is a distance away. If so how much do they charge? Princess provided shuttles at many ports on our Australia/Asia Cruise earlier this year and at some Pacific Ports on the Sydney to LA crossing in 2008. Yes they do, but not always. Sometimes they offer it to the nearest town which is not necessarely to the city we came to see. Prices can range from free (rarely) to $10, $15, and even $30 per person depending on the distance. On the World cruise and grand voyages, most shuttles are complimentary. It also depends on the local taxi associations. In some places, they are unionized and shuttles are impossible because they will protest and create unrest. Some cities will offer shuttles to bring the passengers to them, free or paying. Some places like in South America, there is always a Stern jewellers free shuttle to bring you to their store (no obligation). In fact, shuttles are offered but make other backup plans in case...usually, the cruise line will not advertise the shuttles until the night immediately before and they will do so in the daily program. aussiedisneyfan Posted December 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2009 On our Hal NZ/AU cruise last year there were free shuttles provided in all ports where we weren't docked in the centre of town.
happyglobetrotter Posted December 14, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2009 From my past experience, you may find some free shuttles but do not count on them. Places like Port Kelang in Malaysia never offers shuttles (paying or free) to go to Kuala Lumpur, same with Malta (very militant taxi association there) or Valparaiso etc.
