missymatt Posted December 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2009 You actually go to St. John when you are in St. Thomas. You take a ferry over, there are two. One right near where you dock and the other is in Red Hook, take a taxi over there. It's faster on the ferry from Red Hook, but it's about the same time with being close to the other ferry by the port without traveling out of town. You have all day so you have plenty of time to get there, spend the day and get back before the ship leaves. It's really worth it. St. John is very beautiful and is mostly national park. Do your research and plan well and you will have a great time!

LLindaC Posted December 20, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2009 Yes, plenty of time. However, do not plan to take the last ferry from St John as it is very crowded and you might not get a spot!
Ken Greco Posted December 20, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2009 Here is an interesting idea we had and it worked out well. My family loves St Thomas and St John so much, been there 4 times our cruise in 2007 made its last stop in St Thomas before heads back to San Juan to leave the sip. We got off in St Thomas and rented a waterfront two BR condo and stayed an extra for days. We went over to St John and never had the feeling we had to rush back to the ship. RCCL made getting off the ship easy. We just had to carry our own luggage off the ship and get a cab to our condo.
CKforensic Posted January 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2010 A group of eight of us just went to St. John off of the Oasis this past week. We took a taxi to Red Hook, picked up some munchies, sodas, and rum across the street at a grocery store, and then took the ferry to St. John. After a short taxi ride, we went to Cinnamon Bay (Trunk Bay was too choppy) for a few hours, took a taxi back, and returned to St. Thomas on another ferry that took us to town near the cruise terminal. The ferry from Red Hook runs every hour and the one to town near the cruise ship runs every 2 hours, so make sure you factor this in when deciding which ferry to take. Also factor in the amount of time for the taxi if taking the Red Hook ferry.
