Tipping taxis-St. Kitts

We just returned from a 10 nighter on the Equinox; and, while in St. Kitts we tipped the taxi driver. However, my wife now advises, after reading the tourist magazine from that island, that tipping cab drivers is not customary on that island. Although we are normally generous tippers, we may follow the local custom upon our return to St. Kitts, on the Ruby, in March. But that will not eliminate tips to taxi drivers on other islands, or the staff on the ship. Any tips which we dispense to the ship staff is in addition to the auto tip.
