Port/Starboard...Advantages/Disadvantages

Okey dokey. So I have two dates locked up for my upcoming cruise. (Will have to cancel one, not sure which yet) May 22 or June 5.

Anyways, both are oceanview balconies on the starboard aft of the ship. This made me wonder...What advantages do you have on the Port or Starboard side balconies? Do you face the ocean or the port when in dock. How is the ship popsitioned when in Port Everglades? Where does the loading usually take place? Do people have a preferance? Lemme know

Oasis and Allure ONLY dock Starboard....so if you like seeing the dock action that is the side you want.

Oh This makes me crazy. When I booked I told the RCCL Travel advisor that I wanted a cabin on the dock side and he told me that there was no one side that always was on the dock side. So I just picked a cabin at random and now I have a cabin on the port side (of course).

Does anyone know if the ship docks on the starboard side for both western and eastern itineraries?

From everything I've read, the ship's exits for ports are only on the starboard side.

In one of the very first reveals, RCL stated that both the Oasis and Allure were specifically designed to dock only on the Startboard side. They said "specifically designed" but I have never seen or heard what these design issues are. That said, this has come up several times over the past years as we waited on the Oasis and has been verified by several RCL executives. Only once was there an 'Artists Rendition" published with the Oasis and Allure both docked at Falmouth, Jamaica with the Oasis docked on the Starboard side and the Allure on the Port side, but that was the artists redition not RCL's. If anyone has the design info regarding the starboard only docking I would love to hear it.

We booked a starboard balcony on our April 2010 Oasis cruise just to watch the "Pier Dances" as folks scurry back to the ship (we have seen some doozies over the years... drunks falling off the pier...).

We are doing the trans Atlantic on the Navigator in April. We asked for port side cabins (and got them) specifically because we hope to see Gibraltar and the Riviera on the way...dreaming maybe but we hope that works.

Well, unless they go BACKWARDS, I think you should be all set!;)
