Driving from St. Louis to Mobile! Need a place to stay in Mobile or before Mobile!

We will be driving down the day before our cruise. We are not sure if we will make it to Mobile or not. Looking for a place in Mobile to stay or maybe an hour or so from Mobile! We want something kinda cheap but not too cheap. We are not familiar with this area at all! Thanks!!

We are staying at the La Quinta on I-65 in Mobile. It is about $55.

So when are you going? Kind of funny - my daughter & I will probably be going down from St. Louis in May! Have always flown to the port, but will be driving this time.
