NSgal Posted June 11, 2011 #28 Share Posted June 11, 2011 We have booked all but Juneau. I think I read somewhere on these boards that you can catch a bus at the pier to Mendenhall Glacier for a lot cheaper than doing an excursion. I think someone wrote that it was $8 each way. I think this is a more reasonable way to see Mendenhall, which we do want to see! So...is it ok not to book an excursion and plan on catching a ride to the glacier once we get to the dock?Any confirmation or information regarding this will be appreciated. When you get off the ship look for the the Blue school busses, there is apparently white ones as well that go there. You an pay $16pp return, but some have said that it is better to pay the driver one way , then when you are ready to leave grab whichever bus gets there first and pay another one way fare back. This way you do not need to wait for a particular bus for your return. I have not confirmed this, but would assume it would be $8/pp for one way
Bucket Listed Posted June 11, 2011 #29 Share Posted June 11, 2011 How much time at minimum would be needed to take the bus back and forth, see the visitors center, and take a few pictures? Wanted to fit a brief morning visit in, and was wondering if it was practical. Thanks.
Mendenhall Ranger Posted June 11, 2011 #30 Share Posted June 11, 2011 The trail to Nugget Falls is .75 mile one-way, or about a 45-minute round-trip.
