cafelovercanada Posted January 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2010 Hi! How did you like the 3hr cruise ship snorkeling trip? I am considering this for myself (a beginner snorkeler) and my husband (experienced snorkeler). I have heard that Tortola is beautiful. Thanks for any feedback! SEASMOM Posted January 8, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 8, 2010 The snorkeling was really good. It will be a perfect trip for you. We just wanted to see other areas as there are wonderful places in tortola to snorkel.
nabby Posted January 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2010 Did you check with Dive BVI? I know they specialize in Scuba but I think they do snorkeling tours as well.
nabby Posted January 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2010 You didn't say how long you were in port, but if you have the time you might want to try snorkeling on other islands. Some of the really good spots near Road Town, Tortola are: The Caves at Norman Island, The Indians, and Deadman's Bay on Peter Island. These can all be reached in a fairly short time. There are other good spots but they are farther away (off the north side of Tortola). If you go through a dive charter they should know the good spots. cafelovercanada Posted January 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2010 Unfortunately, we are in Tortola for only a short time - 7 am to 2 pm. I was hoping the cruise ship snorkeling tour would be good for us as the tour operator would be responsible for getting us back to the ship on time. Maniacminn Posted January 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2010 Someone posted this link http://www.bareboatsbvi.com/tortola_beaches.html . I found by reading it that Brewers Bay and Smugglers Bay are good for snorkeling. Smugglers may be hard to get to but I also read somewhere that you can get a taxi to Brewers and that's what I'm planning to do in 2 weeks!!!! cc cruiser Posted January 20, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2010 Maniacminn, please post your opinions on Brewer's Bay on this thread when you return. We are considering this beach for snorkeling in early March. Do you know if they have snorkeling gear available to rent? Thanks!
Maniacminn Posted January 21, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2010 I do not know if they have any gear to rent. We are taking our own. I will definately share my experience when I return.
Lard Greystoke Posted January 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Unfortunately, we are in Tortola for only a short time - 7 am to 2 pm. Taxi is 15 min or so. Nice beach, eats and drinks, snorkeling is said to be generally good. Not much chance of being left behind - in a pinch you could walk back, although it's an hour or so over an 800-ft hill. Taxis on Tortola have a good reputation. Maniacminn Posted February 8, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Back from an awesome cruise with lots of snorkeling. I would say that Tortola was the best. Brewers Bay was awesome. Not crowded at all. I didn't see snorkel gear for rent there but it is my understanding that there was another bar somewhere that may have had gear. If you go to the beach and head to the left there is awesome snorkeling. Saw lots of fish and a turtles. There were no taxi's up there when we got there but we got up there pretty early. There were plenty when it was time to leave.
