Cheshire Lady Posted January 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2010 Any ideas for excursions here? Preferably something we can do under our own stream.
campingman Posted January 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2010 The Coastal Scenary is beautiful so i would rent a car and share it with others and explore in all directions. The towns of Penguin.Ulverstone/Devonport. The drive using a gps to take you off the freeway in places and exploring down to Launceston is also excellent. My advice is to get out of Burnie. Its simply are large service town however the countryside that that surrounds it is well worth a visit.
cands Posted January 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2010 I totally agree. We rented a car from Hertz. (book on-line and ask the shuttle bus to drop you there). We took the drive west of Burnie along the coast. Just beautiful! Cheers, Steve.
Ontario Cruiser Posted January 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2010 We went with a group who rented a car and went to Wings Animal Farm and played with the Kangaroos and Kaolas. It is a beautiful Sanctuary and you can spend hours there. Ontario Cruiser
Cruisin_on_th_net Posted January 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2010 totally agree with other posters. Burnie is ugly as sin *spoken like a true Devonport local LMAO!!!! :p* Get a car and get out and about. Roads are good, back way through to Sheffield (Sheffrock!) and Lake Barrington is a beautiful drive, Lavendar Farm / Pancake Parlour / Maze town (just read it's called tasmazia???) is a great spot to stop! Wineries etc are dotted about and great Tassie bakeries with REAL / FRESH cream etc etc...... I remember the disgust and shock from Hubs (Tassie lad born n bred) at his first bakery experience on the Mainland, where they sell disgusting "mock" cream items. He nearly spat it out at the counter! Never the less a passionate discussion took place about the usage of the word "cream" in their products LOL :) That should be one think you notice, their FULL CREAM products are really rich and creamy, so if you drink skim milk normally, you will probably taste the fat in the milk :) *licks lips with happy memories!*
Australian family Posted January 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2010 We hired a vehicle through Thrifty and set out to Stanley, which is such a beautiful town, very English. We did the chairlift to the top of the nut, drove upto the old homestead. We did the coastal tourist drive to Stanley, and on the way back went to some waterfalls. A lovely day also driving the countryside and seeing the fields of flowers.
