The Blue Hole

Have you all heard of the Blue Hole? I see pictures of it in Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine alot. Do you realize we will be just 60 miles away from it? I think it is really cool looking. It is facinating that it can be seen from outer space. I looked for a helicopter tour, but can only find diving tours. Very cool. Here is a link. Just wanted to share.

I would be curious how much.

OF course, you could stay nearby:

Private Islands

Est. Price Tag: $3 million to $7 million

Wife nagging you to take out the trash? Cast off to your own private hideaway in the middle of the ocean. Flanked by the blue-green waters of the Caribbean, Belizean Island is located just 45 miles east of Belize City. The island is at the northern end of a popular snorkeling spot known as Lighthouse Reef, not far from the world-famous Blue Hole, a 450-foot-deep hole known for its sea life and frighteningly long stalactites (rock-like formations made of water droplets). Go ahead and develop 200 acres of this 360-acre island--the remaining lagoons and mangroves are best left untouched.

i have always seen pictures of the blue hole in magazines. so when we decided on a cruise that was going to be stopping in belize i started to search for ways to get out and see it. i emailed and emailed until i was tired of it, and everyone pretty much gave me the same information that it was too far offshore to get there and back within our port hours which are 8-5. i really wish there was a way for us to get out to it on this trip.

i should clarify myself. we wanted to dive/snorkel. the dive boats leave early in the morning and come back late in the afternoon or spend the night. i think there are plenty of tours by air, but i was interested in underwater stuff.

I just now came across this website. coralbreezelimited.com they have a snorkle trip to the Blue Hole!!!!

I've been to Belize before and saw the Lamani ruins last trip. Wanted to see something other than the normal cruise stuff...I saw your post and it got me searching. What a cool place. I'll try to email them and see what time they do tours..I sure would love to see the Blue Hole.

If you find any more info on snorkle tours...please post them!!!!

That's odd...it is only 60 miles out. I think it is awesome. Wonder how it formed.....We will just have to book rooms at the Lighthouse! I'll be curious to see if zydecocruiser gets a reply.

I had given up, but it came today:

"The Barrier Reef and Island Flight Tour is approx. 2.5 hours flight. The cost of this charter tour is US$500.00 and carries up to 3 people.

The 5-seater will cost US$785.00.

Please let us know if you have any inquires. Thank you."

Ahhhh....too late....I'm home!

We talked with a girl from Coral Breeze that had been to the Blue Hole several times. She said one time she dove down 200 feet (it is 400 feet deep), but could only stay down 2 minutes because of the amount of air left in the tanks. She said it was awesome!....that would be cool!
