SPARKLE10 Posted January 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Hi::) This will be our 3rd time on the Independence of the Seas, sailing the 23rd of this month; and this time, another couple is traveling with us; and they absolutely love Sushi (DH and myself don't) so it was the one question I was unable to answer for them. Is it available in the main dining room or do you have to go to Chops or Portofinos? As D+ cruisers, I thought I would be able to answer all of their questions, but this one I couldn't...and I know there are people who also love Sushi, that could probably tell me the answer to this question. Thanks in advance.:p Happy Cruising....Sparkle 10 (Anita)
Gonzo70 Posted January 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2010 Chops is a steakhouse and Portofinos an Italian restaurant, so you are not going to find sushi there. I do not recall sushi being on the menu in the main dining room on any of my Royal Caribbean cruises, but I have not sailed on Independence before. I do recall a limited selection sometimes in the Windjammer, but it is more like "supermarket" quality sushi than restaurant quality sushi, so if your friends are sushi lovers, it may not be that appealing to them, but so long as their expectations are not too lofty they may find it satisfactory. AESONRISA Posted January 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2010 We had sushi in the Windjammer one evening right before dinner. I don't remember which night though. I just happened to be wandering thru for a snack before dinner and there was a ton of it! It was very good! But I agree with the above, not like fancy restaurant - but not bad either. Hope you find it. Angel
PhoenixDawgCruising Posted January 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I live in LA, where we are pretty serious about sushi. I eat it several times a week. So tell your friends that yes, there is sushi on board, but it's nothing to write home about. It's very basic rolls, premade, not made to order (at least not that I've ever found on RCCL). I usually find mine in the Windjammer, and sometimes they pass it out on trays late at nght around the casino. It's edible, but not the quality or variety that you'd get in a sushi restuarant, or even at some grocery stores. Moral of the story...don't sail for the sushi!!!:D:p
amybeth4 Posted January 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2010 If they're huge sushi fans like me (I could eat it every day, the crazier the better), they'll be disappointed and won't go back a second time. You can find it at dinner in the WJ. What I saw there was California rolls (no raw seafood in those), a veggie roll or two, raw tuna and SMOKED salmon, which is not what a sushi lover goes for (raw salmon's one of my favorites).
