mong1114 Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 We are thinking about doing the Dolphin Discovery at Chakanaab Park with our 5 and 8 year old. Does anyone have any feedback on this excursion? Was it worth the price paid? Does it make more sense to take a taxi to the park and leave Disney out of the equation? I do like the security of booking through Disney with the kids. Finally, and most importantly, do the excursions book up or will they be available to book on the ship? loveysbydesign Posted January 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2010 We were just there this past June and LOVED it! We took our 2 kids ages 2,6 and 10 and we had so much fun we can't wait to go back. Chankanaab ia an amzingly beautiful place and has more then enough to keep you occupied. loveysbydesign Posted January 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Please lmk if you have any other questions. We did the Dolphin Encounter as my 2 younger kids were free and booked it ourselves...but rumor has it you now have to book the dolphins throguh DCL. They also have a new Manatee encounter...sounds neat!

PrincessBelle39 Posted February 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2010 We did this in September with our 4 and 7 year old girls. We booked directly through Disney because we liked the security of this. This is one excursion that we would be repeating next time. We loved it. Not only the dolphins which was a fantastic experience but we love Chankanaab. The kids snorkled, played in the playground, swam in the lagoon and the pool, and had their hair braided. We also had a nice lunch. We almost didn't want to leave.
BDMom Posted February 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We did it when our daughters were 3 and 5. DO it yourself. You get a cab and get there before the rest of the ship passengers. They were very friendly and helpful on their phone number.
Majesty Fan Posted February 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We did the Manatee encounter last month. I did this all online at home. It was quite cold that day. High was 68. Warer was warmer. Well worth it!
kebauc Posted February 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2010 We booked on our own online as well before the cruise. You can chat live with someone so that any questions you have will be answered when you book. It's perfectly safe to take a taxi on your own. When you dock at the port, there will be a line of folks forming to take taxis, on the back side of the shopping center. There will be taxis available at Chakanaab when you are ready to return. We saved a ton of money doing this excursion on your own - and the savings came in handy when it was time to buy the pics and DVD of our experience. It was worth it! I would love to go back for the manatee experience too!

Holly g Posted March 4, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 4, 2010 We did it on our own. We actually rented a car spur of the moment at the pier and drove there. But you can also get a taxi at the pier. Google Chankanaab and you'll get all the info. It's a great place and you will really enjoy it. Don't miss the iguanas running around near the fish pond. We were planning on going there again last week on our cruise but the day turned out rainy and cold and so missed going. Go, you'll have a super great time. flipflops84 Posted March 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 8, 2010 We went on our last cruise and we loved it! It's very clean, there's a nice restaurant and gift shop, and there is a lot to do there other than the dolphin experience. Also- I'd recommend paying a little extra to do the dolphin program with a smaller group (i think there were 8 people in ours). You get to do a lot more with the dolphins than the larger group does. Have fun!
