VOLLEYBALLDUDE2000 Posted January 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Hi there we will be in L.A. 03/14-03/16, 2010 for an after cruise stay. Since DW is a TA we are getting preferred pricing at the Marriot hotels. Which hotel is best for sightseing ( I.e Hollywood sign, Home of the stars, Beverly Hills). We are also intersted in tour operators. Who comes recommended? thanks Joerg
Cruisin' Chick Posted January 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Definitely stay away from the LAX Marriott. It's a decent hotel (we stayed there the night before our very early flight to start our honeymoon), but it's not near anything you'll want to visit. Bruin Steve Posted January 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2010 Hi therewe will be in L.A. 03/14-03/16, 2010 for an after cruise stay. Since DW is a TA we are getting preferred pricing at the Marriot hotels. Which hotel is best for sightseing ( I.e Hollywood sign, Home of the stars, Beverly Hills). Who comes recommended? thanks Joerg Joerg, LA is a big place...and there are a good number of Marriott products all over...and, as you know, they range from business hotels up to luxury...and you can consider some very different areas of town... A lot also depends on how you plan in getting around...and what your personal style is... Frankly, my preference (assuming you won't have a rental car) would be to stay in Santa Monica and just do a tour to Hollywood...Santa Monica has a lot to see and do (and eat) in a fairly easy to walk area...and the best weather--right by the beach...clean, upscale...Of the Marriott products, this would be my choice: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxlm-le-merigot-a-jw-marriott-beach-hotel-and-spa-santa-monica/ There is also a Marriott in Marina Del Rey: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxmb-marina-del-rey-marriott/ Nice area, near the beach and Venice Boardwalk...not quite the Le Merigot though... If most of what you want to see and do is in Hollywood, the prime modern and best located property in Hollywood is... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxrh-renaissance-hollywood-hotel-and-spa/ It's in the same complex as Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Kodak Theater with views of the Hollywood Sign...There are several restaurants and shops right in the complex... But, for the most part, Hollywood itself tends to be a little "worn" in parts... A compromise might be this one: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxrb-residence-inn-beverly-hills/ It's not really prime Beverly Hills...it's down on Pico...the Rodeo Drive/Golden Triangle stuff is a few blocks north...There really isn't that much around the hotel... Do NOT stay in Downtown LA or right at LAX... Hope this gives you a start...

Curt Jerome Wild Posted January 14, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2010 Joerg! As usual my compadre BruinSteve has given you a great start! But, for your situation, and what you are looking for - I really think that the Renaissance Hollywood is unquestionably your best bet - especially for sightseeing! If most of what you want to see and do is in Hollywood, the prime modern and best located property in Hollywood is...http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/laxrh-renaissance-hollywood-hotel-and-spa/ It's in the same complex as Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Kodak Theater with views of the Hollywood Sign...There are several restaurants and shops right in the complex... It's a beautiful hotel that is in a perfect location for all that you want to see and do. While you are there, you can easily walk to Red Line Tours, as they are absolutely the best tour company in all of LA and Hollywood. The Hollywood Movie Star Experience is the best: http://www.redlinetours.com/redline/hmse.php It's also really easy to take the Hop On Hop Off Bus from you hotel: http://www.starlinetours.com/images/SL/HHmap.jpg You can get to Universal Studios, Beverly Hills, The Beach, all the nice sightseeing parts of Hollywood from there! My second choice would be Le Merigot in Santa Monica for your situation. That is one of the few hotels/areas in Santa Monica that Red Line Tours will pick up from. As much as I personally love the hotel and the location, Marina Del Ray would be a third choice for your particular situation (unless you are getting a rental car). I wouldn't choose the Marriot in Beverly Hills for any reason, it's not not that special or convenient to anything worth it... Hope that helps. :D
