Gambling in Monte Carlo

Recommended Posts

We'll be on the splendour from Barcelona in November. I'm wondering if it is possible to go to Monte carlo to play slots . As a kid every classic character went there including James Bond .It is hard to explain it's just something I've always wanted to do. Does any one know the hours , dress code or have you ever been there? Sorry if it sounds goofy it's just a once in a lifetime thing for me

You can go to the Casino but remember as the above poster mentioned you will need your passport and there is a dress code. I know that it is quite strict especially if you go to the high gambling rooms. I also think there is a charge to go inside. Cannot be sure about that as we only went to the front entrance.

We played in the American Casino as we had not dressed up. You can "win" without your passport as long as your winnings are less then 700 Euros (I believe that was the amount). So we played some nickled slots, won 10 euros and hit the road.

Hi Zooka,

It's been a few years since we were in Monte Carlo, but I think things are still the same in the Casino. Not sure where the Splendour will anchor, but there is a rail line that runs along the coast that makes it easy to travel between Cannes, Nice and Monaco. The Casino has several levels of play. As an earlier poster mentioned the American style casino is the first gambling area you enter, which has no entranc fee, and contains slots and Las Vegas style table games. For a nominal fee your can enter the European style gambling area, which when I was there contained only table games. The major difference we found was with the roulette tables, which have only a single zero slot. The big difference was that everyone had the same colored chips (colors denoying value), and there were several house men seated at the table that kept track of the wagers in case you forgot whose bet was whose. There are alcoves that lead to stair cases where the high roller games are conducted, and a small bar is located there. We found it well worth the visit. While you are there the Loews? hotel is an interesting stop.

We were not that drerssed up when we went in October. It did cost 20 euros, even though we were on a shore excursion. They make you check any camera at the door and want a tip when you pick them up. Non of the tables open untill the evening, but the slots open at 2. It is not as exciting inside as i had hoped, but we played our 40 euros in about 5 minutes and left happy that we did it.

If you want to just play slots in MC,not dress up,go to the American Casino across the way from the THE CASINO next to the outdoor cafe. You will not need a passport, and can roam the whole place.A lot more fun as well IMHO.There is a change booth as you walk in as well.Have fun.

Granted this was about 15 years ago, but we went inside the Monte Carlo casino after paying, I think, about a 15 FFranc cover charge (then about US$3.00). I mean, how can you go to Monte Carlo and NOT go inside the casino; right? Anyway, there was two sides to the casino, the stately French side and what they then called the "fruit room" -- where all the slot machines are. I remember I won a 250 Franc jackpot on a machine (about US$50.00), cashed out and went across the hall to watch a roulette game in progress.

Quite a fun evening.

Dress code was country-club casual at least. I'm sure things haven't changed much. Maybe the machines are tighter now <grin>.

Bon Voyage...
