Need to know - was it just soot?

Just back from 1st cruise on Oasis - had a balcony room overlooking the Boardwalk which was fantastic but, what was that black stuff all over the balcony & table - we thought it was just soot but was it something a bit more disgusting??!! Anyone know for sure!?

So, I just read through the entire link about the "ash" and it doesn't sound great. Hopefully they can get this corrected sooner rather than later. I know I'd be ticked off if I shelled out for one of the expensive suites and then couldn't use it due to "ash" (or whatever) all over the balcony. Let's only hope!

Whatever is causing the problem, I am sure they are working hard to correct it. I don't think it would be reason enough to cancel a cruise however. There was quite a bit of it while I was aboard and as I stated earlier, I put my scarf to my nose and mouth just so I wasn't inhaling it, but honestly? If it were any sort of bad pollutant, people would be getting sick and NO ONE, not even a crew member, has gotten sick from it. Aside from getting your clothing a bit dirty, it is most certainly benign.

May I ask which cabin you were in? I have the last balcony on deck 10 booked for our upcoming cruise and wondered if soot would be an issue.
