KruznKel Posted February 3, 2010 #177 Share Posted February 3, 2010 Dry counties and dry towns really aren't a problem. It isn't illegal to possess or consume alcohol (at least in private) in such communities, it is only illegal to buy and sell. LOL whatever works.. ;)
CruzinCpl20 Posted February 3, 2010 #178 Share Posted February 3, 2010 I'll give you one to think about. Your underage son (19 yr. old) is sitting at the casino table gambling for many hours on a 5 night cruise and the pit boss buys him a couple of rounds. It happened in October. This underage son is also in the military and paid for his own crusie but had to fax his military paperwork so he could be in a private room. Carnival won't let you be in a room alone without an adult and their adult age is 23, I think. Yes, he can serve his country but can't drink legally yet. (I'm not a fool. Sure he is drinking when he can.) He cruised with us when he was 18 and we walked by the casino and he was sitting at the blackjack table. We told him if he got caught we weren't helping him or bailing him out. He walked away with $700. This last cruise when he gambled legally he lost $200. Go figure!! trailercruiser Posted February 3, 2010 #179 Share Posted February 3, 2010 The US is quite conservative about the drinking age, the highest of any country. Does not make you a bad person for buying your LEGAL ADULT son alcohol. Absolutely not. Whats it to other people, especially on a cruise what your son is drinking? My son was killed in europe by a drunk teen driver who had drinks with his parents permission. You have no clue, being more conservative and my son would still be alive. Absolute most ridiculous post ever.

yst347 Posted February 3, 2010 #181 Share Posted February 3, 2010 LOL whatever works.. ;) Yeah Yeah......What I meant to say was that if people do not want bars or liquor stores in their community, that's their business. (though personally I think the're nuts) On the other hand criminalizing booze then and drugs today, just creates a massive business opportunity for criminal enterprises while putting the ordinary citizen at risk of crime, costing the tax payer a fortune and doing little or nothing to deal with the social problems that proliferate as a direct result of the prohibition. halos Posted February 3, 2010 #183 Share Posted February 3, 2010 lcmc, Yes you can. It's not allowed per Carnival rules, but you can do so and not likely encounter any problems. Here's wishing you and yours happy sailing. :) ;) That would be my response as well.

I think they need to realize that just because someone is in the Military (albeit glad we have those guys and gals both sides of the border) .. doesnt make it legal for them to drink...age doesnt make you win or lose at the casino.. I think it is fine if your kids wanna have a few beers with you around if you are there and keep them in line;)

halos Posted February 3, 2010 #188 Share Posted February 3, 2010 Ignore the Preachy-Floggy set. You know your kid better than some random internet poster. amen. Just buy a bucket and he can grab his own..........As long as he doesn't get drunk and act like an idiot.......all is well........ :) No surprise coming from a big drinking advocate. And I didn't SAY they were...I was asking...since they said they bought beers for their 18-year old "many times". . quite righteous, aren't we?? That's why I'm against young people drinking...because I know it's addictive...and I know the problems it causes. alcohol is problamatic in people with addictive tendencies. Not everyone is disposed to being an addict, even if they are exposed to alcohol early on. You do NOT know the OP or her 18 year old child so you shouldn't make judgments. I guess she didn't know that the kids are getting flouride in tap water. :D Depending on the source of your tap, the kids could also be getting some nice arsenic. Big beer. Tiny......................... that goes to show there are bigger problems in life  :p ;)

chume Posted February 3, 2010 #192 Share Posted February 3, 2010 No, its not legal (Im surprised its legal in Ohio?? wow). .. but Im sure people do it. Buy it yourself and the waiter will look the other way. Its not like they will follow you around either. I think over 18, its legal in Europe, but no where else before someone points out europe cruises its legal. It is legal in Alberta, and we did it for our daugther on Spirit when she was 20 and turned 21 on our cruise. So go for it if nobody is asking for ID and you are comfortable with it. We were. OttawaCountess Posted February 3, 2010 #194 Share Posted February 3, 2010 Just got off the Dream on Sat. with our 19 year old son. He is legal to drink at home in Ontario. I had gone to guest services to see if I could give consent for him to be able to purchase his own beer on ship, and was told they do not do that. Now - having said that, no one on the ship had any problem with him drinking the beer that we purchased. When he went to the bar himself to buy a beer, they asked for ID which he said he didn't have on him, so they did not serve him. My son is responsible and knows his limits. I didn't have any concerns with him drinking on the ship. Also, he would never get behind the wheel of a car if he was drinking either, which is a lot more than can be said for some "legal" drinkers. So, buy your son a beer and enjoy your cruise. We had an awesome time!
soozles Posted February 3, 2010 #195 Share Posted February 3, 2010 My son was killed in europe by a drunk teen driver who had drinks with his parents permission. You have no clue, being more conservative and my son would still be alive. Absolute most ridiculous post ever. I'm sorry for your loss, I really am, but you're right, you have no clue, adults also drive drunk. My friend was killed by an adult drunk driver, another one ended up permanently disabled because of an adult drunk driver. Drunk driving is stupid, no matter how old or whether the person is legal to drink or not. The thing is, you need to be taught responsibility. My parents started giving me a little bit of wine on the holidays when I was around 10 years old. Alcohol was never really forbidden, and it wasn't taboo. And when I say a bit of wine, they would usually fill up a shot glass with wine, and I would drink half of it. When I was around 15/16, my mom would buy me a drink or 2 on the cruise if I wanted. My parents bought a bottle of wine for dinner, and the waiter said if they wanted, he could bring an extra glass, but he would not be able to pour the wine for me since I was underage. If my parents chose to pour it, then it was fine. I'm sure technically it was still not allowed, but who was going to report it? Our waiter told us to do that if I wanted some wine. And because I was pretty much always allowed to have alcohol, I learned how to drink it responsibly. I never saw the appeal in going out to get drunk, or going to some random person's basement for some nasty beer, when I knew if I wanted it, my parents would very happily give me some nice wine or beer. So to the OP, technically according to Carnival's rules, you can get kicked off for buying someone underage alcohol, but seriously, who is going to report you if the kid is not getting drunk? As long as he's not being loud and disruptive, nobody will even know if he's 18 or 21 anyway.

lillian marie Posted February 4, 2010 #198 Share Posted February 4, 2010 The bottom line is you may get put off the ship if CCL discovers your 18 year old is consuming alcohol on the ship. Friends saw a couple kicked off a cruise in Barbados a few years ago. If you are kicked off the cruise you have to pay for your flight home. CCL's regulation is age 21 for the consumption of alcohol and the cruise line enforces this. You can bring on 1 bottle of wine per 21 year old passenger. Your kid could have a glass of wine in the room. If you want to drink at bars with you son find a Carlos and Charlies in a port or other type of bar and go party in the port. Or you have a right to buy him drinks and risk being kicked off.
17andacruiseaddict Posted February 4, 2010 #199 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I'm confused by your post. I thought on Carnival 18 y/o's could gamble. yeah 18 is the gambling age on carnival so idk why they made it seem like he would get in trouble. anywho..to the OP if you want to buy your kids drinks, go ahead! besides, if your kid wants you to buy them drinks, they clearly already drink. so if you dont buy it for them, they will still end up drinking. they will meet friends who will buy them alcohol or meet people who have bottles or rum runners in their room. so its not like you can stop them. ive been drinking with my mom since i was 16 (margaritas every once in a while) and shes bought me drinks onboard and ive had friends who bought me drinks and have drank in rooms with em.. been drinking in the islands since i was 18. next cruise (8-12-10 on the dream) ill be 21! so ill be leagally drinking onboard for the first time!!!!!!!!!!! whos wants to buy me a round? to all bougie people who swear they have never drank before they reached the legal drinking age, you guys shouldnt even bother answering the OP's question. you know you arent going to have anything to say other then "why i'd never!" lol
