picrig Posted February 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I have 120 days left until my June 5 cruise on Carnival Dream. It feels like that is a loooooong way off. Of course, I look back and realized that it's already been 60+ days since I booked and I guess it's not quite as bad. What makes it worse is that it's a surprise for my wife (2nd anniversary trip) and so I can't share the excitement/waiting with her. What do the rest of you do to pass the time more quickly in the weeks leading up the cruise?
*Mach* Posted February 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Read reviews... investigate ports of call... study deck plans... look about for dinner menus and information about the cruise director... Pretty much the same stuff most folks do... :)

Pretty much the same stuff most folks do... :) Yep. Me, too. Study the excursions I've bought and decide what I want to explore and find out on the ship during the other times. Investigate what I might want to shop for in each port. Come on this board and moan about how far out my cruise is. Hear others' experiences and learn new things (Banana Split for dessert!) What do the rest of you do to pass the time more quickly in the weeks leading up the cruise? You're a short timer. We still have a long wait until our 9/14/10 cruise. It's still 222 days away, and we've been waiting 37 days so far. Happy cruising to all! Bob
amethyst08 Posted February 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I am 282 days out, so I have been reading the boards, looking for a cheap trip I can take between now and November. I have also been going back and looking at pictures from my most recent cruise. This weekend, I plan to watch the video footage that we made for the last cruise. Oh...and I daydream full color food porn. ;)

jmcancruise Posted February 4, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2010 We planned this cruise about 730 days out and booked over 400 days out. Right now sitting at 92 I am feeling pretty good. I decided this week to tackle some of the many unfinished craft projects I have on the go. A couple of quilts etc. Should help to pass the time. By the first of March I will want to start my spring cleaning. Besides that, follow the boards and plan everything down to the last detail. bumbles Posted February 4, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Shop for new cruise clothes!! It's winter here so that means SALES on warm weather clothing!! (OK - so that's how I justify it!! :D)
tiggerman101 Posted February 4, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I play a numbers game in my head. When I am at 160 days I tell myself it won't be too long before it is half that so I look forward to 80 days out. Then I tell myself to just look forward to it being halved again at 40 days. When it gets past that point it really goes by quickly to 20 days. Then it just slows way down.....

What do the rest of you do to pass the time more quickly in the weeks leading up the cruise? If I was you, I would surprise her with a Valentine's Day present. You could wrap up a picture of the cruise and give that to her. Like you said you can't share the excitement with her, why wait. That way you still surprise her with the cruise and you still get to share the excitement. My wife and family would be mad if I kept a cruise from them. My wife and daughter get excited in shopping for the cruise and etc. A lot of people like to plan for a cruise that is part of the experience( dieting, tanning, shopping and etc.)
picrig Posted February 4, 2010 Author #15 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I like that idea, N2DFIRE. I think I might have to work something special up for Valentine's...any ideas?:-) It'll also make my job of getting her to get her passport updated (since it still has her maiden name on it) easier. I've been telling her she needs to get it updated "just because it's good to have a current one," but she's been dragging her feet since she sees no hurry given we weren't planning on being out of the country this summer:-)
balcony bound Posted February 4, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 4, 2010 When I thought I wasn't going to live through my extremely long countdown, I started counting by how many more WEEKENDS until the cruise, instead of days. That really helped.
prwardii Posted February 4, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 4, 2010 It also helps to find someone who has to wait longer... Oops, that would be me

janabm81 Posted February 4, 2010 #22 Share Posted February 4, 2010 Research, research, and research some more. Also, every Sunday I get up and do my little cruise song and dance. picrig Posted February 4, 2010 Author #23 Share Posted February 4, 2010 I've been reading CC religiously since I booked (probably haven't gotten as much work done since then, either:-)). Hopefully I'll be participating a little bit more from here on out...already joined the roll call for the sailing. Thanks for all the encouragement everybody! Then you can put a nice note in the flowers about packing her bags because you are taking her on a romantic cruise.
