Cruise Insurance

Which do you prefer primary or secondary?

Primary is GREAT if you are making a claim and you have your own health Insurance Policy, as you don't have the delay for the coordination of benefits, waiting for your personal insurance to payoff. Primary might cost a bit more. If you don't have personal Health coverage then Primary may not be as advantageous. TravelEx and Patriot offer Primary. ken

I have always been told that the vast majority of U.S. domestic health insurance plans offer no coverage outside the country. If that is true, what difference would it make?

If you have secondary trip insurance they normally make you submit your claim to your personal insurance (except maybe for Medicare), to establish what your personal insurance won't (or will) pay, before they pay their share. If you have primary trip insurance, you can forego this step/delay. Also there might be issues of coverage for continuing care for illness/accident after the cruise, which your personal insurance might normally cover. ken
