Cruisertommyboy Posted February 11, 2010 #26 Share Posted February 11, 2010 Like the previous poster, I too have lived in the DC area all my life and also have never seen anything like this. Of course this snow fall broke a record set in 1899. I am old but not THAT old. No, I don't remember the Knickerbocker snow of 1922 either. I can go back to 1992 when I worked for the Fire Department, we were expected to be ontime for our shift. I lived at the Fire House for 4 days and slept on my office floor each night. Any of the Md locals hear the forecast for some more snow the beginning of next week? It's only Feb 11 so we have a lot more of winter around here. Stay warm and safe and dry Tom
GypRasc Posted February 11, 2010 #27 Share Posted February 11, 2010 Hey Cruisertommyboy what fire dept did you work for? We live in Mt Airy & DH is now retired from DCFD. He had a hell of a time getting home from work in the '92 storm. He actually had to abandon his car on a back road and walk several miles. This one has been brutal but at least he's retired now & doesn't have to worry about getting to work. And snowblowers are well worth the money! emtnmare Posted February 11, 2010 #29 Share Posted February 11, 2010 Have noticed that the east coast gets lots of snow at times. But it also seems to disappear fairly fast. Looks like temps in the 30's for the next week.

At the time I was stationed in Damascus and also lived in Mt. Airy. Well that's what the post office called it, more like Kemptown. Figured when I retired, to young to not work so now I work for a Fire Protection Co. in Rockville. Not real fond of the Mon. to Fri stuff, but it pays for my cruising addiction. crusinpsychRN Posted February 11, 2010 #31 Share Posted February 11, 2010 I live in northern VA and feel your pain! My DH dug out 28" from our driveway go I could leave for FL on Monday. I leave on the Miracle next Tuesday with my mom....glad I got out when I did...what a mess! He could not get to work today, our county was under blizzard conditions! And the Gov't has closed for three days now....WOW!!! It'll be cold down here. The natives will be in coats. It's not above 63 this week with lows in the 30's. Freezing to us for sure. It's lasted way too long as usually it might be a few days but this has been weeks. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!
