What exactly is Chankanaab

So I've seen it in a lot of posts and know for the most part what it is.

I'm curious as to the snorkelling there. I can't quite determine if the area you snorkel in is a man made habitat in a lagoon, or if it is out in the open water.

Snorkeling is out in the open water.
