angiebabes Posted February 15, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted February 15, 2010 Thanks Johnthedog! I agree, we could get the water taxi to Grand Anse, but i am a cruise virgin and feel safe booking the trips with P & O. We will learn alot on the cruise and get alot of advise i would hope. So by the time we do our Panama Canal trip on Oceano ob 31st Jan next year i will be more street wise! Heard there are a lot of people hassling you to take there sunbeds ec so wouldnt want to be there all day!!:)
SparrowLegs Posted February 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2010 Just returned from Ventura, our Catalina Island stop was cancelled and replaced with Grenada. Grand Anse is so easy as Johnthedog said, water taxi $8pp return, runs practically back and too all day, or the local bus $1pp each way. Its a great beach with crystal clear water, no problems if you dont want a sun bed or brolly, sit on your towel under a palm tree, many did, fabulous. A few vendors on the beach, a polite no thank you and there gone. I can understand your concern feeling safe with ship tours, but many are so easy to do yourself at half the cost, others not, so go with the ship, you will have a wonderful time what ever you choose. Johnthed0g Posted February 15, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2010 Honestly....I don't do "on our own" very often, I take the view that we are on holiday & can't be bothered with it all, some enjoy the organising, I don't. You can walk St. Georges from the ship, just wander along the seafront of one of the prettiest ports you will see, up hill to the market(an experience, but can be done without, a bit busy) You can see Grand Anse from the ship more or less. The Nutmeg place is not very interesting, Grand Etang lake & nature area is nice, last time we were there was just after the hurricane so there wasn't much left. capasamari Posted February 15, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2010 We did the river tubing P&O trip in the morning, were dropped back at the ship, got changed out of our wet things back on board, took the water-taxi to the beach, had lunch at a restaurant on the beach, then a swim, snooze, and back on the water taxi to the ship. We had plenty of time for all this and a mooch round the shops in the new cruise terminal at the end of the day. Yes, you will be met and escorted up the beach by people wanting you to take their sunbeds, but a smile and a polite "no thank you" will suffice, they are not aggressive with it. No problem, Grenada is lovely! Carol x
angiebabes Posted February 16, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted February 16, 2010 You have all put my min at ease now!!! I will cancel the Grenada trip and do the water taxi. It will save me some money as we are doing a trip in every port except St Maartan! I did have one booked for that but cancelled it! Will get the water taxi there too!!! This is a brillant forumT Thank you everyone who has bothered to reply!!! Hope to see you on board!!!:p
sammydo Posted February 16, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2010 you are doing the right thing, grande anse beach really dosent warrant doing a tour. you can sit on the beach and look right over to the ship. it can be really busy on the beach, so walk a little when you get out of the water taxi, so you are not in such a crowded spot, and as previous post said, there are some lovely little palm trees to sit under if you are not too late getting there. have fun !!
