Cancun, Mexico or Montego Bay, Jamaica

What is your preference Cancun, Mexico or Montego Bay, Jamaica? Why?

Cancun, Mexico. Although the beaches are beautiful in Montego Bay, the town within is a dump. I did not feel safe with the locals following us around, trying to sell us random items on the street.

Cancun, by a mile. Jamaica is beautiful, but sadly they have huge issues with crime. I remember going to a resort there and the front desk telling us not to leave the confines of the resort for our own "personal safety." We were swimming in the ocean and locals would come up to us in boats and try to sell us drugs. It's a shame, because I do feel Jamaica is beautiful. Conversely, I never felt unsafe in Cancun.

I must agree as well. I have been to both places several times. Cancun is by far a nicer place overall. If you are not in the confines of a resort in Jamaica be prepared to be approached about buying drugs.

Agreed with Cancun over MoBay, but on a cruise you would probably go to Cozumel? Is this a land-based vacation question?

The resorts in Cancun can be beautiful, but I prefer some of the smaller resort areas- even Playa del Carmen, which is still pretty big.

 

Food's much better in Mexico- nice variety of regional dishes, fabulous seafood on the coastal areas.

This doesn't seem like a cruise related question. At least not RCCL with mentioning Cancun.
