Looking for help with the most interesting shore excursions people took in Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Also, if anyone enjoyed an excursion in any other south american ports, I would be interested in hearing about them. Leaving on Infinity Feb. 13. Thanks for your help

Mafdalena Island (from Punta Arenas, must book through the ship) or Punta Tombo from Puerto Madryn are a must for probably the best Penguin viewing. Personally, I believe Magdalena is the better of the two.

We did a catamaran tour of the Beagle Channel in Ushuaia - we loved it, and I would certainly recommend it. This can be booked locally if you prefer.

If you go to Puerto Montt, and haven't already visited the Lake district, I would personally recommend Osorno/Frutillar - also easily booked locally.

Have Fun & Buena Suerte!

Hi Lovetocruise,

We're also on the 13 Feb " Round the Horn" cruise. Hope you've registered for the C.C. Party.

We did the Punta Tomba penguin reserve in 2003. It is very interesting once you've arrived at the reserve but remember there's a long 76Km trek on a dirt track through the Patagonian Scrub Lands.

In Ushuaia we've booked the Beagle Channel Cruise and Martial Glacier Chairlift

trip from PortCompass.

We'll be doing "our own thing" in Puerto Madryn and spending time with a local Argentine Welsh family in Gaiman. Have you joined the thread for this cruise on the Roll Call?

There is a ton of information on the Ports of Call listings at the bottom of the main page here.

Just scroll down to South America at the very end.

I am booked on HAL Amsterdam in March (Infinity was sold out) and have found much usable stuff there, especially concerning private tour guides and local pick ups at the port.

love

joan

Hi Cindy,

In Puerto Montt, we've booked a hire car from Avis. The four of us are going to visit Puerto Varas, Petrohue Falls, and Frutillar.

In 2003 we flew down from Santiago to Puerto Montt stayed the night in Puerto Veras then took the three lakes boat and bus trip across the Andes to Bariloche.

If we have a fine days the views of Osorno and the other volcanos should be quite spectacular.

Peter
