lovetocruise815 Posted January 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Looking for help with the most interesting shore excursions people took in Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Also, if anyone enjoyed an excursion in any other south american ports, I would be interested in hearing about them. Leaving on Infinity Feb. 13. Thanks for your help
Nancyquilts Posted January 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2005 If you don't like the ship's excursions, and you do a little homework at the library on the ports, you can find a taxi in both ports to take you just where you want to go at a reasonable price. StephenJohnson Posted January 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Mafdalena Island (from Punta Arenas, must book through the ship) or Punta Tombo from Puerto Madryn are a must for probably the best Penguin viewing. Personally, I believe Magdalena is the better of the two. We did a catamaran tour of the Beagle Channel in Ushuaia - we loved it, and I would certainly recommend it. This can be booked locally if you prefer. If you go to Puerto Montt, and haven't already visited the Lake district, I would personally recommend Osorno/Frutillar - also easily booked locally. Have Fun & Buena Suerte!

plasnewydd Posted January 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2005 Hi Lovetocruise, We're also on the 13 Feb " Round the Horn" cruise. Hope you've registered for the C.C. Party. We did the Punta Tomba penguin reserve in 2003. It is very interesting once you've arrived at the reserve but remember there's a long 76Km trek on a dirt track through the Patagonian Scrub Lands. In Ushuaia we've booked the Beagle Channel Cruise and Martial Glacier Chairlift trip from PortCompass. We'll be doing "our own thing" in Puerto Madryn and spending time with a local Argentine Welsh family in Gaiman. Have you joined the thread for this cruise on the Roll Call? lovetocruise815 Posted January 22, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted January 22, 2005 Hi Plasnewwydd, Thankyou for responding. I did not join the thread for the roll call on cruise critic, but will do so now. What do you have planned for Puerto Montt? Are you planning to take tours of your own at the pier? joramrose Posted January 22, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2005 There is a ton of information on the Ports of Call listings at the bottom of the main page here. Just scroll down to South America at the very end. I am booked on HAL Amsterdam in March (Infinity was sold out) and have found much usable stuff there, especially concerning private tour guides and local pick ups at the port. love joan
plasnewydd Posted January 22, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2005 Hi Cindy, In Puerto Montt, we've booked a hire car from Avis. The four of us are going to visit Puerto Varas, Petrohue Falls, and Frutillar. In 2003 we flew down from Santiago to Puerto Montt stayed the night in Puerto Veras then took the three lakes boat and bus trip across the Andes to Bariloche. If we have a fine days the views of Osorno and the other volcanos should be quite spectacular. Peter
lovetocruise815 Posted January 23, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted January 23, 2005 Hi Peter, I think that we might use Jamie Toth (private tour) to see all the above places you mentioned. We are also 4 people traveling together. Thanks for your help. Cindy
