Rhine River Cruise-disembark in Amsterdam- need advice.

Our cruise begins in Basel and ends in Amsterdam. On Sat. 7/10, Avalon's "Felicity" will dock in Amsterdam and passengers are given a canal cruise in the A.M. We are on our own for the rest of the day, sleep on the boat and disembark early Sunday morning. We are spending 2 nights on our own in Amsterdam. What should we do for the remainder of the day on Sat. after our canal cruise offered by Avalon. Would the Anne Frank house and some things in that area be a good choice? We are staying at the Marriott and will save the museums etc. in that area for the next 2 days on our own. Any suggestions? Also any restaurant suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

The Anne Frank house is a must and, since you are staying at the Marriott as we did, Sat aft would be a good time. Be sure to get your tickets on-line as you will avoid a long wait. The Indonesian restaurant Sama Sebo is within easy walking distance of the Marriott. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food. Get the rice table and a bottle of rose wine and you'll be in heaven. Be sure to get a reservation as it is crowded.

we are also ending our cruise in Amsterdam in July and since we have been to Amsterdam several times are going to get tickets on line for the new Hermitage Museum. It has exhibits of art from the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Google their website to see the info.

We also spent extra nights at the Marriott and there was a restaurant right across the street (I think it was Italian) that we enjoyed very much. We were there in the Spring so were able to take in the tulip tour - but also did a tour that went into the countryside, were able to visit windmills and have lunch in one of the villages. I am sure the concierge at the Marriott can point you in the right direction as to the tour company. Sorry - I can't remember their name!

The restaurant right across the street is italian and very good. I recommended Sama Sebo because it is different and atmospheric.
