bahamas in March

Quick question. We will be in the Bahamas the end of March. Is the water warm enough to go swimming? Also, has anyone done the Mini sub adventure? What beach would you recommend in Nassau? What recommendations for Freeport?

Thanks a bunch.

Not sure of the water temp. The mini sub is a blast. When we went to Nassau we always stayed on Cable Beach at the Wyndham Hotel and Casino but you need to check out Atlantis on Paradise Island.

Keep in mind that the Bahamas are just EAST of florida. They are in the Atlantic Ocean, Not in the Caribbean. The Bahamas are hundreds of miles north of the tropics. So there IS a possibility of cool weather. UNLIKELY, but possible. If the air temps are reasonably warm for a period prior to your cruise then the water temps should be fine as the waters of the Bahamas area are VERY shallow. There are a few deep channels for ships, otherwise much of the area is only 2 to 6 feet deep. Oddly, with so much shallow water, there is also a very deep area. Off Andros Island, south of New Providence Island [Nassau] is a body called "The Tongue of the Ocean." It is so deep [thousands of feet] that we do sub testing there.

We went on a Disney cruise one March. I'm a wuss when it comes to "cold" water. We didn't go to the beach in Nassau, but we did at Castaway Cay. I had no problem getting in.

What ship and dates are you going on? We will be on the pride leaving March 21, also going to Nassau and Freeport.

In Nassau we bought day passes for the British Colonial Hilton, and get use of all their facilities including beach front and pools. It's walking distance from the port, so no cab fare. Here's a link for the site we used: http://bahamascruiseexcursions.com/NassauHiltonResortPass.htm

We aren't in Freeport for very long we are going to take a cab over to our lucaya resort and just walk around, maybe go for a swim.

Hope this helps!

It's been a long time, but the last time I went to the Bahamas it was the middle of March. The water was absolutely perfect - I don't remember sticking my foot in and recoiling or having a tough time getting used to the temperature. In fact, the sun was so powerful on that trip that when I had my hair braided, my scalp got severely burned. It was so bad that a week later it looked like I had a horrible case of dandruff. Ew!

We're going back to the Bahamas - departing Easter Sunday and I'm hoping to experience warm weather like we did last time!!

We've done the Wyndham previously and loved it. I don't know how good it is now since it's a CCL excursion.

We went the last week of March last year, the air temps were great, but the water temp at Blue Lagoon was almost unbearably cold. We did the dolphin experience and my mom had to push me down in the water because the water was so cold you just couldn't make yourself go in. We were at the beach in Freeport the day before and I managed to get in the water about knee deep, but it was cold. I didn't even entertain the idea of getting in the unheated pool.

Its too cold for me in the Bahamas until late May/June time frame.

Last year I did Eastern Caribbean to St Thomas and did a snorkel--jumped in and promptly lost my breath because it was so cool. Water temp was 74 in the USVI which are hundreds of miles south of the Bahamas.

We thought the water was quite chilly the first weekend of March last year, but we firced ourselves to go in and once we acclimated, it was fine as long as you kept your whole body under.

But my friend was in the Bahamas this past January and she said the weather and water couldn't have beeb better, so I guess it just depends. However, next time we go, it'll be April or later.
