kdinkus1 Posted March 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2010 My son and DIL are going on the RC Freedom of the Seas and was wondering which restaurant, Chops or Portofino's, is best for their money. Can we see a copy of their menu's anywhere? Thanks.
krisko Posted March 1, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2010 I really enjoyed both restaurants 2 weeks ago on Mariner but if I had to choose between the two, I would say Chops offers the better bang for the buck. I had the best veal chop in years there. To save money, next cruise I'll do neither restaurant and instead opt for the Chops filet ($15 upcharge in main dining room) on a night or two. SylvieQuebec Posted March 1, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2010 I did not try Chop, but less than 2 weeks ago I tried Portofino and it worth every penny. I think it's a matter of taste, either one, you may not regret it!
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted March 1, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2010 Have tried both on Independence and Portofino's gets my vote. The pasta and seafood dishes are amazing.
KeywestK Posted March 1, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2010 Personal preferences differ with everyone. I love both Chop's and Portofino's and they are quite different in menu and atmosphere. Both are wonderful and both are worth the upcharge, IMHO. We plan on going to both on our upcoming Radiance cruise....:) Karen

wgraves Posted March 1, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2010 Chops would be an easy decision for me. I love a good steak, and the filet mignon in Chops is stellar!
Lvs2Cruise2 Posted March 1, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2010 Make it easy.. do BOTH! Both are wonderful!
lintman Posted March 1, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2010 We have been having this same debate for our upcoming Mariner cruise. I only want to eat at one and I was leaning towards Chops but now I think I am starting to sway back the other way. I guess I will just have to watch as other reviews/suggestions come in. Lyndihop Posted March 1, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 1, 2010 We ate at Chops on our Serenade cruise. Personally, I don't see spending the $$. We didn't think it was THAT special.

tmoore4075 Posted March 2, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Did Chops on Radiance and Portofino on Adventure. My vote goes for Portofino.
lovecatherine07 Posted March 2, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 2, 2010 I haven't been to either but this video helped me decide on going to Chops for the first time on the Radiance in April...
bplazo Posted March 2, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 2, 2010 I liked Portifino's better.
Jevsy Posted March 2, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 2, 2010 We've just returned from the Brilliance yesterday. Did Portofino and it really was fabulous! It was enhanced greatly by our waitress, Nataliya, delivering superb food in a professional yet friendly and fun manner. Well recommended!
dukesfootball06 Posted March 2, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 2, 2010 What you need to do is figure what your son and DIL would like better. Me personally I am a steak man and loved Chops, nothing like a New York Strip and a Filet for dinner. Portofino at the same time though has great food too. You can't go wrong either way! abhb Posted March 2, 2010 #17 Share Posted March 2, 2010 We love them both. I am trying to talk DH into doing both on our upcoming Mariner cruise in June. He only wants to do 1 because he loves the MDR. It will be our 27th anniversary so I think we should do both. I still have some time to talk him into it:D
casandbliz Posted March 3, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 3, 2010 We went to Portofinos on the Radiance back in Oct. 2009. We were disappointed with it- our entrees were served cold, then it took 45 minutes to have them served again. Not sure why- Will try Chops on our next cruise on the Mariner-
csoud Posted March 3, 2010 #19 Share Posted March 3, 2010 this sounds terrible, but i just cant see myself paying $25 to eat on a ship. Its darn expensive as it is. My steaks have always been great in the Dining Room.
nanfromatlanta Posted March 3, 2010 #20 Share Posted March 3, 2010 I haven't been to either but this video helped me decide on going to Chops for the first time on the Radiance in April... terisu10 Posted March 3, 2010 #21 Share Posted March 3, 2010 I feel the same way but we are trying Portofino's on the Liberty in May since it is $20 per person and I read on these boards their filet is pretty wonderful also.
granddutchess Posted March 3, 2010 #22 Share Posted March 3, 2010 We love Portofino's and feel it is worth the upcharge. Food is outstanding. Service is impeccable. We will be dining there again this summer on LOS.
sasue Posted March 3, 2010 #23 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Just got off the Mariner on Sunday, 2/28. We went to both Chops and Portofinos. My husband had a filet in both. While the food was okay, it certainly wasn't up to steak restaurants in San Antonio. The entrees were okay, I wasn't impressed with the seafood skewer in Portofinos and the calamari was virtually inedible! While the filet in Chops was good, the sides were weird, the onion cheese soup was practically impossible to eat as there was way too much cheese on it. Maybe we're too picky, though as we thought the MDR food was mediocre and not as good as other lines we've been on. The NCL specialty restaurants were much, much better. lovecatherine07 Posted March 6, 2010 #24 Share Posted March 6, 2010 Here's one for Portofino... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOFL4NFqnmc&translated=1 I've seen that video! That food looks pretty yummy too :) BTW I know that there is a $10 for cancelling a reservation, but what about CHANGING a reservation's day or time? goofygame Posted March 6, 2010 #25 Share Posted March 6, 2010 Ate in Chops on Mariner and Portofino on Voyager. Prefer Portofino by far. Would not go back to Chops.
