What?!?!?! No cigars at the cigar bar? I guess this means cigars in the room, my wife will be thrilled.

Are you allowd to smoke cigars out on your balcony (first time cruiser - we are in an AB suite)?

Thanks!

I thought that cigar and pipe smoking was prohibited in cabins and balconies.

You are correct - the only place available on the Jewel is ondeck in the smoking areas. The Jewel cigar bar was a poor design with no door. They thought the smoke eaters installed would control the smoke. It did not work.

What about smoking, drinking and gambling on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all NCL ships are smoke free. If you smoke cigarettes, you can do so in your stateroom, on your balcony, in the casino or Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sport decks, kids' pool areas and other designated non-smoking areas).

Ok just off the Jewel and my husband is a cigar smoker - he did smoke on the balcony...

Also they permit you to smoke cigars at the Sky High Bar - which is where we went for the sailaway...

We went to the original cigar bar and they have taken the doors off, seems they only use it for a lounge now...

There never were doors on the cigar lounge on the Jewel.

That was the issue.

The smoke eaters were built into the ceiling and were actually too passive if there were more than 1-2 people smoking. (Sailed twice on the Jewel while the room was in operation)

In addition, physical movement of people in and out of the room created airflows into the bar area which of course lead to complaints re cigar smoke.

A simple solution would have been to put on doors but my guess is that the revenue generated from cigar sales did not warrant the expense of a remodel.

I see that the deck plans for the Epic include a cigar lounge that appears to be of a different design that will isolate the smoke issues.
