rjan67 Posted March 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Well, my husband and I have passports and nexus cards, but the children only have nexus cards (trusted traveller cards - which U.S. immigration assured us at the time they were issued would be all that we needed). Anyway, just spoke with Carnival and after a little wait, she assured me as long as we weren't flying and the cards had a picture, the children were all set. However, when I tried to complete our funpass, of course it keeps coming up as passport as an only option for documentation. I guess I'll print out what I have but won't be able to get the luggage tags. Anyone else have this problem?

I have been under the impression that we Canadians must have passports now to travel outside Canada no matter what the mode of transportation is. I would contact our Canadian Immigration and not US as you are a Canadian citizen. I would be curious to know.
jtdlmc Posted March 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2010 I got this off of a cruise specialist travel agent site, so not sure if it is completely accurate. I would call someone - US border (I live in a border city so always call them if I have any questions), passport Canada or someone to find out for sure. As of June 1, 2009, passports are required for all travelers, including citizens of the U.S. and Canada, who enter or re-enter the U.S. by air, land or sea. There are a few notable exceptions pertaining to land and sea border crossings: Children under the age of 16 who are citizens of the U.S. or Canada are exempt from the passport requirement for land and sea border crossings. In lieu of a passport, children are able to use a birth certificate as proof of citizenship for entry into the U.S. by land or by sea. Children entering or re-entering the U.S. by air are required to have a valid passport.
thesawch Posted March 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Get them passports!! The others are only good for driving across the border i was told. And they aren't accepted in other counties so if you have a problem it could complicate things. rjan67 Posted March 3, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Well, see here's the thing. I travel outside Canada 5x week as I work in the U.S. I went back over last night with my daughter, using our Nexus cards to go shopping. I know that I can get in and out of the country this way. It seems like this is fine where I am (Ontario into Michigan) but it seems like it isn't consistent throughout immigration. It even has it listed as appropriate documents for a U.S. citizen under travel documents.
rjan67 Posted March 3, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Looks like I can print out my funpass if I unclick the passport option. I just have to fill out the kids section by hand.
