chadci Posted March 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2010 I've read a few reviews recently where the folks say the waters were too rough and they were unable to tender to the mainland. Does this happen often?
Roses2 Posted March 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2010 We have been to Grand Cayman twice. ON the first cruise we tendered in to Georgetown but the last time we could not, so the Captain went around to Spots Bay and we tendered in there. There were plenty of cabs and shuttles available and there was the opportunity to see more of the island.
chadci Posted March 3, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted March 3, 2010 Cool. We're both really looking forward to visiting the Cayman Islands. This is her first trip out of the US and she would be disappointed if any ( especially the first ) stop got cancelled.
sahm2alexis Posted March 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2010 I've read several reviews that say the same thing... I'd love to hear from some more people that actually got to go to Grand Cayman!
hannibal54 Posted March 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2010 We were able to go to Georgetown Mar. 4. The water was rough so we had to go to Spots Bay to tender in. This side of the Island was much better water wise. Lots of people there for rides everywhere. I think they only allow 3 ships per day at Spots Bay and no anchors. TheWog Posted March 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2010 You should be able to tender when you are going. It happens more often in the winter months because of winds and then during summer if storms are around. We were close, captain went down in a lifeboat and checked things out before finally giving the ok to allow tenders for our cruise. He almost didn't. It was a great day though. Glad we were able to and this was a January cruise.
nybumpkin Posted March 18, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 18, 2010 The first time we were scheduled to visit Grand Cayman (July 2005), we had to skip the port due to Hurricane Dennis. We then sailed in February 2008 and tendered with no problem, and then again just last month.
lovevacadays Posted March 18, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2010 We were able to tender in November. And I was able to tender the one other time there. It seems like there have been a few missed ports in the Western itinerary in the last few months. We were very fortunate on our sailing in November to have extremely smooth seas and great weather. I hope you do too.
