Help with Nassau

My bf and I are going to be in Nassau on April 7th, we know we definitely want to go to a beach. Originally we were thinking of Blackbeard's Cay because from the pictures it looks gorgeous, and a beach package isn't very expensive. However, I know I will be paranoid of sand fleas, so I don't think it would be a good match for me.

Now we are caught between 2 different ideas:

Day pass for the BCH

Beach pass to Blue Lagoon

Has anyone done either of these? Which do you think would be best?

Any input is greatly appreciated! We have no idea what to do in Nassau!

Thanks :)

I have been to Blue Lagoon and there are things to do but it was crowded.

I have since found a beach behind the Riu hotel that is free (except for the $5.00 cab ride). Nice beach. If you remember, bring some goggles, you'll be surprised at what you see. Schools of tiny white fish that you can't see with the naked eye. I also brought small body boards for the teens (okay and for me too), we had a blast on this beach.

If you are adventurous and like to get into the mix with people and you enjoy the 20-30ish crowd, you will probably enjoy Blue Lagoon.

If you want something more relaxing, check out the beach behind the Riu.

I don't want to quote the beach name as I am not sure if it is called Cable or Cabbage beach.

Cabs drive by there frequently so you don't have to worry about not being able to get a ride back to the ship.

If your into the waterpark scene, get a waterpark day pass for Atlantis, I have not done so but hear this is an awesome experience!

I love Nassau, it's my favourite port.

I have done this so far in Nassau trips:

Straw market (every visit) I love the interaction with the local people.

Atlantis hotel - Impressive to see, HUGE aquariums, spacious casino, all the way around, it's an experience to have.

Alcohol purchasing spree - I don't drink much but the prices are insane! I can't resist.

Impromptu taxi cab tour- That was actually pretty interesting; Getting some history of the island and finding out that quite a few stars own property there.

Wandered around the downtown core a few times. What sticks out most in my mind about downtown is: There is an internet cafe if you need one, banks, liqour stores and the Hard Rock cafe.

I have taken a few tours but I didn't enjoy them enough to remember much.

I hope you have a blast on this island.

First let me say that you really shouldn't be concerned about sand fleas on Blackbeards. It's Not the season for one thing.. but besides that, there have been no complaints for months. The island is sprayed, and if you stay out of the underbrush and bushes, you shouldn't have a problem with bugs.

ANY island, beach or area that has trees or underbrush is going to have noseeums when the weather is right. So you won't avoid them. Just bring bug spray or wipes.. just in case.

As for your question. Blue Lagoon is my pic for a day of relaxation on the beach. It's a pristine lagoon island.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I think we are definitely going to do the Blue Lagoon beach day. Just another question, as I understand it, we have to catch their ferry from the paradise island terminal. Is it difficult to get there from the cruise ship? How $ would that be by cab?

Also, what time do the stores in Nassau normally close at? We want to make sure we have some time for shopping before our ship leaves at 6pm

Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

You can take either a land taxi or the water taxi to Paradise Island. I believe the Blue Lagoon boat pick-up is located across from Atlantis, so if you do a land taxi, be sure to get dropped off there, not at the other end (public beach area.) FYI, the water taxi is less money. :)
