Packing Question for the Oasis

Recommended Posts

This will be our second cruise and I have a packing list from our last cruise that worked perfectly. We used everything we brought and didn't overpack or underpack. I am wondering, is there anything that you packed for your Oasis trip that you didn't need on other cruises? Thanks! :)

Hi 1france2 ~ I have a hard-copy printed out and it stays in my 'packing room'. I will look and see where I saved it on my computer and post it for you..... I took tips/hints and advice from others on here and then adjusted it to my specific needs.

1france2 and pabrett46,

Here is our Oasis Packing List (attached in PDF form). Let me say that this list is a compilation of many, many cruisers, both here on Cruise Critics, other boards, friends, nieghbors, and other cruisers. It is in no way all ours. But we have found that it is a great list to start with. Also you do not have to pack all of this... just consider these items. Thank you to anyone and everyone that contributed knowingly or unknowingly to this list.

I hope this helps!

Ok, here is my personal packing list ~ As I said it worked perfect for us, you may need to tweak it, but we used everything that we brought. From others lists we compiled a HUGE list and then deleted what we didn't need or found that we didn't use. Sorry this is long but I don't have a way to 'PDF' the list here at work.... Happy Sailing :)

* Febreeze to freshen the room - sometimes there may be a funny smell.

* Sun hat or visor

* Sweat suit – wear on the plane to and from and then you will have it handy ~ just nice

to lounge in and great to put on for a quick walk to the breakfast buffet

* Water bottles. Expensive on ship and the purified water on ship is better than in the

bottle for filling up and using later. I Board with 2 bottlesand refill during trip.

*A cloth bag for shopping, taking to the beach and putting items in instead of purse

*Very comfortable sandals and/or have flip flops

* Sweat jacket - it does get cold sometimes on ship and this is casual

* Zip lock bags – You will find many uses for these

* Sea sick medicine - if in doubt - take it often and for sure before you get on the

boat. Once you get sick it will ruin your cruise.

* Walkie talkies to communicate with each other on the ship - works great

* Wrist cord that has hook to attach cruise card. You will never lose it this way.

* Magazines or books for those relaxing times around the ship

* They supply hair dryers but I bring my own

* Do not bring a suitcase that is larger than will fit under a bed. Two small ones are

better than a very large one. There is not enough space in the room to sit it out.

* Alarm clock for those early morning excursions – or just use your cell phone alarm

* Consider bringing a power strip to handle the electrical items you need to plug in.

Most cabins have only one or two electrical outlets.

* Duct Tape – This came in VERY handy when the zipper broke on our suitcase

* Anti Histamine or Benadryl

* Aloe – or after sun lotion

* Advil

* Extra pair of contacts in case the pair I am wearing rip

* Mini Binoculars – great for pulling into port

* In case of emergency card/info

* Over the door bag with pouches – perfect for storing small items and de-cluttering

counter tops

* Mini-Sewing Kit

* Safety Pins

* Watch or waterproof watch

* water shoes

* antibiotic ointment

* band-aids

* eyeglass repair kit

* wrinkle release spray

* insect repellent

* clothespins - For hanging wet swim wear in the bathroom

* fold up laundry hamper – or just put dirty clothes into suitcase after wearing, then

you are already packed when it is time to go home.

* small waterproof wallet for money, credit card, and sea pass card on excursions

* folding umbrella

* tide pen to remove stains

* thank you notes – for room attendant, waiters, etc.

* Eye glass cleaner & cloth

* Instant shoe shine kit

* Pepto Bismol

* First Aid Kit - Band Aids , Neosporin, Aloe Vera (burns)

* Sunglasses

* IPOD – For the room and/or at the beach.

* Extension Cord - we all have lots of things to charge

* Post It Notes - Easy for notes on doors of friends and instructions for your room

attendant.

* Super Glue- I never leave home without it!

* Photo Copies of Pass Port and ID - Just in case you need them

* Super Large Zip Lock Bags - Use to separate pre-cruise packing items / Use to pack

dirty laundry - damp items on the last night.

* Hi Liters - For marking your Daily Compass activity plans (one color for each person

in your group is helpful.)

* Camera / Camcorder - Buy your underwater disposable before leaving

* Camera Accessories - Film,Chargers, Cords, USB Cords, Spare Alkaline Batteries in case you forget to charge at night.

* Digital Camera's - extra Memory Chip – You’ll take more photos than you plan.

* Extra Coat Hangers - Buy ‘em cheap, leave ‘em behind when done. You can iron the night before at your hotel and hang for quick transfer to the closet on board.

* SunScreen - Much cheaper to bring your own.

* Snorkel Gear - Bring your own - Cheaper than the cost to rent.

* Chapstick

* Lots of single dollar bills for tipping

* Antibacterial wipes to wipe the door handles and remote controls

* Small packs of kleenex

* a folder for all of our paper work (in fact, I usually have a small folder for each port

with itineraries, emails from tours, etc.)

* Shampoo & Conditioner – The shower has a shampoo but it isn’t my favorite

* Cough drops

* Razor

* Eye drops

* Swim suit – At least two

* Cover-up

* Body lotion

* Deodorant

* Facial Moisturizer

* Toothbrush/Toothpaste/Dental Floss

* Lint Brush

* Listerine / Scope

* Dental Floss

* Sweater: Even though it's warm and humid in the Caribbean air conditioners can

make dining chilly.

* Shout packets (for oops)

* Gel/Mouse

* Diffuser

* Curling Iron (s) / Straighteners/ Rollers

* Hair spray

* Various Hair Accessories

* Brushes / Combs

* Hand Sanitizer

* Suction cup toothbrush and soap holder for bathroom mirror

* Make-up – including waterproof

* Drivers License

* Tweezers

* Q-Tips

* Nail file

* Pre-paid phone card(s)

* To prevent/reduce wrinkles for your hanging clothes, try this. Cover each item with a plastic garment bag from the dry cleaners. It really works!

* Hot & Cold Compresses- Get the "instant" kind that most medics and sports trainers keep in their jump-kits. Hopefully, you'll never need one, but if and ankle gets twisted or something ...

* Envelopes- Use the regular ones for keeping reciepts, cards and other (papre) "stuff" sorted. The large (manila) envelope is for your on-board photos.

* Rain poncho – Dollar store.

* Baby wipes. These serve a couple purposes.

a. - Get a stain on clothing, rub it with a baby wipe. It will either remove the stain or pre-treat it for the wash.

b. - toilet paper in restrooms in ports of call may be lacking the paper - baby wipes!!

c. - great for cleaning up sticky hands and faces after eating

* Leave a copy of passport & significant ID with someone at home and be sure they have your ship fax # just in case.

The single most useful item I've taken on cruises with me was an over-the-door clear pocket shoe storage bag. I hang it over the bathroom door and store all of our toiletries in it.

I love using these. They help keep all those little things from producing clutter around the room.:)

The last couple ships I have been on have had too tight of a door fit to use on the bathroom door so I have used on the closet door. I have heard that Oasis has sliding closet doors, which might not work for these.

My question is:

Has anyone successfully used an over the door shoe organizer on the Oasis?

Just got back from our trip. Had to buy a jacket. It was way colder than we expected! Hot in St. Thomas and St. Marteen, but cool most other days. Make sure you bring long pants to ice skate. You don't have to worry about shoes for rock climbing- they give you climbing shoes. For the first time in over 15 cruises I brought the same formal for both nights. I said the only people that will notice were my family and they don't care! It's amazing how much space you can save with one formal outfit instead of two! And believe it or not no one notices or if they do they don't care!

I did not look over your entire list but the one thing you should never do is stop your mail or newspaper. Once you stop any service coming to your home for a week is an idication you are on vacation and your house is empty. People who rob homes for a living sometimes have people on the inside feeding them information on such empty houses. You should even go as far as not being picked up in front of your home in a taxi with tons of bags, as much as a pain in the ass as it is walk down a few houses to get picked up

As a former Newspaper IT security employee (20 yrs) what you note is correct, however, that information is very secure in most newspaper systems. Newspaper circulation systems personnel and carrier personnel are thoughly schooled in the inportance of this type of security and I can tell you I personnally have seen folks reprimanded and fired over not keeping this type of information secure. Also not everyone at a newspaper has access to this information, only those that need it to do their job. True, things happen and an insider can gum up the works by selling/giving this info away, but collusion of any kind is the bane of any security system.

You can get a nieghbor to pick the papers up (now the nieghbor knows and can say something to someone inadvertently). Or just leave them out (a worse suggestion in my opinion).

My point is do what you feel makes you comfortable. If you are more security minded do whatever you deem necessary. This list is only a suggestion - a starting point. You do not have to do everything or take everything.

Sorry... now off my soapbox... I'm going to have to throw that box away some day.

from the flip side. I dutifully ran to the dollar store & got one of those shoe things that I promptly forgot to pack. I did not miss it & could not for the life of me figure out how I would have used it. (I sailed with my husband & toddler in an inside room...)

To be honest, your home is more at risk by "oversharing" on social media when on vacation than with your newspaper delivery. Even more so given the decline in daily newspaper delivery among the younger demographics.

Someone who knows you, and knows what stuff you own, can easily track you based on social media (foursquare, facebook, and twitter are the big three that also include location-based data).

I brought Neutrogena shampoo which I usually never bring. The reason is that the shampoo the cruise line provides has conditioner in it, and I much prefer just shampoo without condiitoner. I want clean hair, not product treated hair.

I'm debating about picking one up (shoe organizer)- I tend to over pack so, knowing me, I'll probably bring one. :) I'm sure we'd be fine without one, though! We're traveling w/ our little one, too! Can't wait!

Don't bring too much for the little one. Luckily our first port was Port Canaveral - we mailed a lot of "entertainment for my son" home.

Not sure your little ones age, but a couple cars, a lovely, & a book was plenty for our guy - he preferred being out & about looking at stuff, climbing stairs, riding the elevator, etc.
