saussi27 Posted March 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Hi all I've noticed with the Carnival Ecstasy its sometimes quite late docking do to intense fog. What happens if its late and you happen to miss your flight? Does CCL compensate you somehow? I'm assuming you'll have to pay more to the airline to get home. Anyone have this happen or does anyone know what happens?

JanesCruisingBuddy Posted March 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2010 It did happen to us a few years ago and we had to have our insurance cover it. We were fortunate and had a TA that we were able to contact who made all the arrangements for a night in Orlando and new flights in the morning. She offered to see that the costs were covered up front, but we paid and the insurance which we bought through the travel agency reimbursed us. A good reason to have some back up money on a credit card even if you have insurance. I know not everyone was so lucky. There was lots of grumbling and complaining on board the last evening as we knew we were going to be late.

saussi27 Posted March 11, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks all. I almost feel bad for those who don't/didn't purchase insurance. I've just been noticing a lot lately that the ships out of Galveston are late.
Tbay-eh Posted March 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2010 And if one didnt purchase ins? Then sorry to say you would be SOL - Carnival only guarantees that they will sail - where, where ever it is safe, ports of call - only stop if safe to do so, they in no way guarantee that they can be anywhere at a specific time if it unsafe to do so (fog). This is why you buy insurance to cover this type of thing. Even if there is a medical emergency and they are late they are not responsible. Raven Days Posted March 11, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 11, 2010 I will be paying $76 for my trip insurance...that is a very small amount compared to what I would have to pay if my ship came in late and I missed my flight.
golfadj Posted March 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Some ports are known for fog and this is the big one. DS cruised out of there in December and he lost a day of his cruise as the ship got in one day late.
salty dingo Posted March 12, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2010 What happens if its late and you happen to miss your flight? Does CCL compensate you somehow? No compensation is due for delays due to weather. Weather is not something the cruise line can control. If you miss your flight, you will have to pay the expenses involved in re-booking. Some of the non-refundable ticket rules state that if you are a no-show and do not cancel ahead of time, your tickets are worthless. You would have to buy a ticket at the going rate. This is why you buy cruise insurance!
