MelAl45 Posted January 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Has anyone sailed on the Sovereign of the seas lately? I was wondering if this was true (re lobster). This was in the new review of Sovereign on this site. Also does anyone know where they might have a new Virtual Tour of the Refurbished Sovereign? Dining Sovereign of the Seas has two main dining rooms: Mirage on Deck 4 and Illusions on Deck 3, each with two seatings. Meals are elaborate and well planned, and even on the shorter itinerary, traditional fare like lobster and prime rib is available. The pastry chef is exceptional, preparing desserts that look like works of art. Happy ks Posted January 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Usually, there is no lobster on the shorter cruises. Not to worry, though, the lobster onboard cruise ships is usually not all that great, overcooked and tough. Stay away from the chicken and alternative (not on the menu) steaks, too. I have found, on cruise ships, the food actually looks much better than it tastes. But I have never gone hungry on a cruise.
JeffKoz Posted January 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2005 I remember having lobster on the 4 night Sovereign...and am looking forward to it again on our 1/31 sailing.... :)
ahoughton Posted January 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Maybe they have changed since the refirb, but on six cruises on Sovereign since 2000, they have never offered lobster. But the schrimp scampy is sooooo gooood. Ask for double serving.
dougp26364 Posted January 24, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2005 If it's as tough as the lobster we've been served on our 7 night cruises, who would want it? All I can figure is after watching cruisers stuff down 2 or 3 or 4 of these over cooked rubberized lobster tails is that most don't know what it's supposed to taste like, just that it's supposedly expensive. Just give me the drawn butter and let me drink that. It's the only thing that had any taste to it once the lobster had been killed twice by the kitchen. On our 3 night Monarch cruise, we were served the formal night dinner menu that had the beef tenderloin on it rather than the menu with the lobster. Perhaps on the 4 nighters they serve the lobster menu for formal nights.
ahoughton Posted January 24, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2005 We have done four night sovereign an dMajesty and no lobster. Have had it on Norwegian and it was great. I will give it a try in Oct on Mariner. If it's like you say, I will order something else.
Chriz Posted January 24, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2005 I just got back from the SOS 4 day and Lobster was only served in the form of Lobster Bisque. This was the same as when we sailed on her last year before the refurbishment. The food on this sailing was outstanding and some of the best I've had on a cruise! gadawg1979 Posted January 24, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Going 2-14, how are things after the dry dock. Give us the good the bad and what ever. Cannot wait to go. How were the seas?
Chriz Posted January 24, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2005 I am working on a short review right now, the refurbs were well done in my opinion, this ship as certainly regained some life. The seas were a bit rough on our first night, due to a horrible cold front moving through Florida and south, but after that everything was good. More to come in my review, should be up in an hour or two...
