calgarycruiser Posted January 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2005 We are sailing on the Carnival Valor which makes a stop at Cozumel until 11 PM at night. We thought we would take the opportunity to try out some real Mexican food - not looking for anything upscale - just somewhere that the 'locals' would recommend. Can anyone offer any advice? CozSally Posted January 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Lots of great Mexican restaurants here in Cozumel. One of my favorites is Sonora Grill. You'll get tons more recommendations from others as well.
Carey on Cozumel Posted January 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2005 Lunch is when you get the best deals on great Yucatecan cooking which, you should realize, is not the Tex Mex you are probably used to when you think of Mexican food. Several places downtown are good bets -- clean, good food and under $6/person for soup/drink and large entree with side of tortillas, beans and etc. I like: The Coffee Press Avenida 5 and Calle 6, Coffelias Calle 5 between Avenida 5 and 10, St. Miguel Cafe Avenida 15 between Calle 2 and Calle 4. Camillas has great fried shrimp tacos. Avenida 5 and Calle 2. For pricer Mexican fare, certainly Sonora Grill has a nice view from the second story and good food. Another favorite is La Choza on the corner of Rosada Salas and Avenida 10 -- two blocks back from the water. And let's not forget the island's oldest restaurant where you can eat outside and people watch -- Casa Denis -- on block back from the waterfront on the main plaza. Ask any local.
