Change of plans in Galveston

My wife and I are cruising on Conquest out of Galveston in April. She has recently discovered some things she'd like to do in Galveston on embarkation day. We hadn't been counting on this, and are going to be using a car service from our hotel in Houston to the cruise terminal in Galveston.

My question is this...if we get to Galveston early enough in the morning so that we've got a few hours to do touristy stuff, is there anywhere in town we can store our luggage?

or

How early can we check our bags with a porter on embarkation day?

You should be able to check your luggage with a porter at about 10 AM.

The Strand (shopping and food!) is within easy walking distance of the port.

May I ask who you're booked with to get from Houston to Galveston?
