ChiBearsSuperFan Posted March 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Sailing on Carnival. Wondered if anyone knew how far it is from the cruise pier to the Southernmost Point buoy? No luck finding any excursions that go there specifically and was just thinking about walking there. Is that a possibility?
FoolishMe Posted March 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Hi Bears Fan! Definitely a possibility. The island isn't that large and you can walk to that point and back in a reasonable amount of time. Certainly can sightsee along the way as well - Head east on Duval St until you can go no further, then south one block (think that's right)

peter_krynicki Posted March 18, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2010 Starting on the docks it's approx 1.5 miles, 16 blocks from Front Street to South Street. I'd walk down Whitehead to at least see the Audubon House, Green Parrot bar, Hemingway House, the Bahama Village, the lighthouse and museum, then, finally, the S'Most Point. Then walk the one block over to Duval and head back. Pjk
debshomespun Posted March 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2010 We have walked at least twice to the Southernmost point area. Makes for a really nice picture. We always just walk around Key West. Lots of things to see and do along the walk.

peter_krynicki Posted March 25, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2010 Where are the Pirate Soul Museum and Kino's in comparison? Thanks! Patty in Houston Very close, like two half blocks in either direction off Duval. Pirate Soul is at 524 Front Street between Duval and Simonton. Kinos is just off Front between Duval and Whitehead on a small, almost alleyway, at 107 Fitzpatrick Street. Pjk
Name Of The Game Posted April 15, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2010 Are there any streets/areas to avoid where you're more likely to have a purse snatched or what not?
bhopal21 Posted April 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2010 I would not be in the Bahama Village area of town in the evening unless you were with a group going to a specific destination. (That is the area below Whitehead Street) There are very few tourist destinations in that area anyway. The main areas are the parallel streets of Simonton, Duval and Whitehead as you can see from this map. http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/map.html Mike:)
Name Of The Game Posted April 15, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2010 I often see the street Petronia come up. Would you say Whitehead at Petronia and anything south of that would be considered more sketchy?
bhopal21 Posted April 16, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I often see the street Petronia come up. Would you say Whitehead at Petronia and anything south of that would be considered more sketchy? That is a pretty good rule of thumb for evening hours, and Petronia St is the "official" entrance to Bahama Village from Duval so it has more traffic. Unless you happen to be going to dinner at Blue Heaven there is not much in that area to see at night anyway. Violent crime is rare in Key West and just being aware of your surroundings should be all that is necessary. Have a great visit! Mike:)
