Need HELP from DiCAPac Users

I just got a DiCAPac WP-310 for my Canon SD850IS (underwater housing is discontinued). My problem is the directions aren't real clear to me(see below).

In step 5, do you only remove the lens if you need to in order to turn on your camera? I'm assuming you wouldn't want to disassemble and leave open when using.

Also, is the Up-Ring only necessary if your zoom extends further than the pac? Mine seems to be fine without the up-ring, so I'm assuming I wouldn't need it.

I'd appreciate if those of you who use the DiCAPac could help me out so I don't accidently ruin my camera. If you have any additional tips that you have from your own use, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!:)

Unfortunately, I have only heard from people who have had bad luck with these bag-type housings. Just my opinion, but I would not use this snorkeling but it would be protection from sand and sea spray of you are going to be boating or jetskiing. That is unless you want an excuse to buy a new camera which is what I friend of mine did. Good luck with it and above all, have fun!:D
