For Those That Have Brought Inlatable Kiddie Pools

Hi! We are getting ready to go on a cruise in May on Carnival's Splendor. We are cruising with our 1 year old - he weighs about 26 pounds. I am interested in getting feedback about which inflatable pools work well on a cruise with a child this size. I want something that we can put between our lounge chairs but something big enough that he has room to play. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Any other tips you would like to add about cruising with a youngster would be great as well. We have cruised many times before just not with a child. TIA!!!!

Enough room for him to splash a little and get the effect of a "pool" but small enough to fit in b/t chairs.

we are getting this for our ba;lcony and good for the beach too. it folds up small and no inflating woohoo!

Stupid question...where do you dump the water when you are done?

 

Over the edge of the balcony on the folks below you or all over the deck?

Wow, the pop up pool is a great idea! I've heard that you can dump the water into a drain nearby or use an ice bucket to go back and forth to dump it out.

We bought a small inexpensive one for our cruise last summer and it worked great. We only ended up using it on our balcony, but the kids loved it (even my 4 yr old). We could have also used it out by the pool deck without any problems. Just find a location that is a bit away form the pools and there will be more room to spread out. As for where to dump the water, simply ask one of the crew members they will point you in the right direction.

We brought a similar small inflatable pool for our baby to enjoy on our cruise in January 2010...it's a good concept, but didn't work well for us.

 

Problem was, our baby was 11 months old at the time of the cruise, was actively crawling and starting to walk. She just wouldn't stay in the pool! She's the type of baby that likes to explore (crawl, climb, now she's running!)...she just wouldn't stay in the pool.

 

This type of pool would have been great for a younger baby who isn't yet actively crawling or walking, or an older one who's more responsive to direction...it also just really depends on the type of child. Our older daughter would have been a much better fit for such a pool when she was one.

In the hot tub with the rest of the diapered babies. :p

 

But seriously -- the parents who bring these can look for a few different things:

 

--janitors closest with sink (ask a crew member for the closest one)

--a deck drain

--a shower drain

 

It should just take a couple of buckets to fill up so it should just be a couple of buckets to empty.

I "second" this style. Unless you have lungs of steel this will be "just right to blow up and will provide him with enough water to cool down and/or splash in. This is the one we take and it has never let us down :)

a lot of the water will end up "around" the pool as a result of "play". There are a TON of drains on deck, you just never noticed them before. You will be fine.

We use the duck ($10 target in baby section) We just dump it down the drain by the pool and fill it with pool water using empty beer buckets (ask at the bar). On the balcony we fill it using the sink or shower and dump it in the shower.
