mumsiesof2 Posted March 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2010 Has anyone been to the Temple at the top of the hill-I've read about it,but a neighbor said that there isn't any public transportation toget up there & you have to walk it. May I please have some feedback from those who have been there & done that ? Thanks for your time.....
The Islander Posted March 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2010 If you are of the Jewish faith, have interest in houses of worship and/or historic sites than you'll likely find the Synagogue interesting. You can find more information on their website: http://www.onepaper.com/synagogue/. Check the opening days/times. It is located on a hillside in downtown Charlotte Amalie and the road is very narrow (one way) so generally taxis drivers aren't willing to go. They therefore would drop you downtown and then you have to walk up. Its a short walk... but its uphill... a little steep. Again if you are interested in historic sites you could do it as part of self guided walking tour - visiting some of the additional historic sites in Charlotte Amalie like the Lutheran Church, Liberty Bell and Emancipation Park, 99 Steps etc. --Islander
laser110 Posted March 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2010 My wife and I are Jewish and we have been several times. When I was younger, we would sometimes go to Friday services there too. Definately worth seeing, as a historic sight. As Islander mentioned the best way to get there is walk along Main Street till you get to Trompeter Gade. Make a left at Captain's Corner Store and walk up the hill. At the top of the hill the Synagogue will be almost immediately in front of you just to the left. Scott How steep are the stairs? my friends father will be coming with us. He is 81 and not in the best of health. We would love to help him see the temple, but he probably can't handle too many steps at this point.
