What a brilliant suggestion! I would never have thought of that!!

If you are travelling independently you can not follow the crowds on a fly cruise package at Palma as the Thomson coaches go through a security barrier that you will not be able to do so . You have to access the cruise terminal building near the taxi rank and then make your own way over to the ship. Getting past security before you get to the Thomson embarkation area will mean you will need to show proof of you going on the Destiny. Then you can make your way down the stairs / use the lift and get to the checking in area. I have done this three times and this is the only way. Very Very occasionally a taxi can talk his way through the barrier but most will drop you at the rank. If you are going by the Number One airport bus from the airport it stops opposite the same place as the taxis at the port - it takes about 45 mins by bus but you get a free trip through Palma city and the bus is very cheap !!

Hi again folks, special thanks to Clare, Kruzeeka and Ecko for the replies and helpful suggestions.

Sneaking on the Thomson coach at the airport seems a good idea,the 4 of us are divided on that suggestion at the moment, if the bar is visited that morning at the airport then the unsure ones courage should be built up by then:). As a matter of interest how much would a taxi be from Palma airport to the port?

 

Now a question for the alcos:D is there a good choice of spirits in the AI package, dont drink beer, lager, stout etc, do they have non premium Whiskey, brandy etc.

We arrive into Palma airport at 1330.

If you are not on a flight arriving at the same or similar time to Thomson there will be no coaches - in addition they have been known to count the people and do name checks.

 

Taxi is about 25 Euros and much quicker - bus is very cheap - the Number ONE bus outside departures - but its slower but you get an interesting ride through Palma city !

 

It is 2 Euros each and the bus leaves every 12 minutes so often quicker at leaving than the coaches in the coach park - you need to get off at PORTOPI but it will be obvious as you will see the ship ! The names of the bus stops appear on a screen on the bus before it gets there so you will get advance warning but by then you will have spotted the ship.

 

You could beat the queue and the coaches by using a taxi which is another method

Ive just remembered also that when my wife and I have made our own way to the port and not gone on the Thomson coach our case has arrived at our cabin door extremely quickly - this is because it by passes the coach off loading people and you take it with you in to the embarkation building - from there - it is taken by a " baggage handler " for want of a better name and seems to get put on the ship rather than being dumped with the 100's of others being put on the quayside.

Yes you can get spirits on the all inclusive no problems.You would have to pay a top up for named spirits but that will be clear from the drinks menu.

 

We get to Palma Airport at 12.30 so hopefully I will have got my seat, ordered and paid for, on the coach and be relaxing on the ship (well trying to get my bearings), before the skinflint stowaways head out looking for a freebee lol! The very thought of it!

Cheers for that Huddersfield, will probably now opt for the taxi as their are 4 of us(€25 between us is ok) and would like to get from A to B as quick as possible.

The drinks with just one price at the side are included in the AI. Those with a blue asterisk show another price (also in blue) which is the supplement you must pay for those drinks even if you have AI.

Hubby keeps standing at the window whinging 'this bl***y weather...'.

 

It will be good to feel that warm sun on our backs, can't wait.
