Need help with hotels

We are currently booked at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port. The address is 2081 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, Fl. Our rate is $98.79. This includes free parking (We are driving down from Delaware) and they do have a shuttle to the port for $8 per person.

We are also booked at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street, using their Cruise Passengers with a rate of $199.79 inlcuding taxes; this includes a free shuttle to the port and we will need to pay $5 per day for the car. (I forgot we do get the happy hour, etc)

Here is my question. Does anyone know or have had experience with leaving their cars at either of these hotels? How is the area around the hotels. Which in your opinion is the safest area to leave the car? Or are they equal.

The gentlemen at the Embassy Suites said that the Taxi's will not allow hotel shuttles to go pick up passengers from the cruise port on their return (said it was some union thing). We would have to take a cab back to the hotel. Has anyone had experience with this? Is he correct and about how much do you think a cab back to either hotel would cost? Thank you for all your help.

While we are not parking a car, we will be staying right across the street at the Spring Hill next month. They have the free shuttle to the pier, but you have to pay for the return. It must be a port rule.
