cruisebabe430 Posted April 7, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Wondering if there are any beaches or resorts to use for the day while docked for one day in Old San Juan.
bigeagle12 Posted April 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Marriott Stellaris in Condado area just east of Old San Juan has day passes for $30/pp. Great pool, beach, restaurants and casino.

gonzo1124 Posted April 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2010 I wish the Caribe Hilton would offer day passes. One of the best beaches nearby, but it is the only private beach in the island.
orquidia Posted April 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2010 I wish the Caribe Hilton would offer day passes. One of the best beaches nearby, but it is the only private beach in the island. it is not private, it simply has no easy access from the street due to the way the hotel was constructed in the 60's, it was the first major hotel in san juan and the first for hilton international. sadie8 Posted April 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2010 We've gotten day passes at the Caribe Hilton on two occasions. We had to call ahead the day that we wanted them to check availability. They actually issue you a room for the day and full access to the property.

It is only for the use of their guests, so "private" might be a technicality, but no one else can use it. I have seen local people being told to leave as they go in from the Escambron side. rasta Posted April 17, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2010 For some reason I'm recalling that it is, in fact, private because it is man-made? I've stayed there a few times and never liked that beach myself, it always seemed too small.
orquidia Posted April 17, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 17, 2010 under Puerto Rican law all beaches are public.
rasta Posted April 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 17, 2010 I think I saw this same information elsewhere but here is an excerpt from puertoricodaytrips that seems consistent with my memory. Public vs Private Beaches All beaches in Puerto Rico are public (at least up to the high-tide mark), unless the beach is man-made (such as the beach at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan). That means that if you want to visit the beach at the Wyndham Rio Mar (for example), even if you’re not a guest at the resort, you’re allowed to. Resorts, hotels and other establishments on seemingly private beaches have to provide beach access to "their" beaches. Having said that, no one says that they have to provide easy beach access. So, though you have the right to use a public beach at a resort or hotel, the beach access they provide will most likely not be through the hotel lobby. Often, there will be a footpath outside that leads around the hotel to the beach.
