Verizon on Freedom

Recommended Posts

So, I called Royal Caribbean today to ask about using my cell phone (Verizon plan) on the ship. I was under the impression that Royal Caribbean charged to use a cell phone on THEIR ship (in addition to Verizon International roaming fees) I was told that RC does NOT charge a fee(in addition to Verizon) to use my cell phone!! Supposedly all I'll pay to use my phone is the International roaming rate that Verizon has quoted me from my plan. Has anyone else used their Verizon phones on RC ships & been charged by RC? Was I given incorrect info by RC?

I did not see the Intl Roaming rates for cruise ships listed on the Verizon site, but I think it was around $2.50 / minute on my Verizon bill last October on Freedom OS. That rate is only applicable while at sea. When in port you will be billed for whatever country's rate you are in.

Last month, with the Verizon international plan, it was $2.69/min. I have a Blackberry, and the plan included unlimited email and web browsing, plus .50 for incoming and .05 for outgoing text.

I did not make any calls, but the data plan was fantastic. It was pro-rated, too, only for the time period that I was on the cruise.

I went to an actual Verizon store (not an authorized re-seller) to make sure I got the correct info. They turned the service on for me right there.

So since we have Verizon MiFi wireless internet which uses the same signals as Verizon wireless phones, I'm wondering if I should take it. With MiFi you're not charged per min (only if you go over the download limit). Has anyone ever tried it at sea?
