gmm8631 Posted April 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2010 I would like to know if anyone who has recently sailed on the Coral Princess could tell me about smoking on the ship.I am looking to book a cruise for my parents and my mother CAN NOT be around smokers. They recently did a trip on a Holland ship and she had to spend most the trip in her cabin because of all the smokers. The ship allowed passengers to smoke everywhere(resturants, bars, every outdoor area and even the hallways) even though there was a no smoking policy on the ship.I would hate for the same problem to occur on this trip. Any help would be great.:)

On the island the only place outside that you could smoke was deck 15 at 5 tables in the corner! Inside the only place beside your cabin was in Churchill Lounge a closed room for smokers only. You could not smoke at any bar or resturant!!
AndyTheK Posted April 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2010 We were on the Coral over Christmas/New Years. Smoking was allowed in all cabins and balconies. Most of the ship is non-smoking. Exceptions are: Outdoor areas: 1. On the Sun Deck (15) by the bar at the forward end a group of about four tables on the port side. 2. On the Promenade Deck (7) the port side aft section (ashtrays hung on the wall) Indoor Areas: 1. On Deck 7 Churchill's (cigar bar). Tell Mom to stay away from that area. The air exchanger in there isn't effective at all. 2..The casino - smoking permitted at only one blackjack table and a small group of slot machines. On a 15 day cruise there was one smoke-free night in there. HTH. Shalom, Andy.

Clutterlady Posted April 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Oops, forgot about a small section in the Casino that allows smoking. There were 2 smoke free nights also on our 10 day cruise!
Billy and Charlie's Mum Posted April 11, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2010 I can't stand cigarette smoke and when we were on the Coral in Feb I didn't even notice it. Have a great cruise. The Coral is a beautiful ship.:D

We have sailed on HAL, and they do not allow smoking in the restaurants, or the hallways, or in most of the bars or in all outside areas. I would book 'mother' on a non smoking ship, or at least one that only has one or two areas where smoking is allowed (that she can avoid), or she may be very unhappy again! Raamo Posted April 12, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2010 I was on the Coral in January, as well as 18 months ago - they have greatly reduced the number of area's you can smoke. I try to avoid it and found the recent trip on the Coral to be perfect.
Cruisin' Chick Posted April 13, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2010 I would wonder about the smoking in the restaurants (I'm guessing she means the dining rooms) on Holland. I don't think any of the cruise ships allow smoking in the dining rooms. I would imagine there's no smoking signs before you enter and if someone does light up, they would be quietly told about the no smoking rules. I remember we were looking at cruises in the mid 90's and I had called Royal Caribbean to see if smoking was allowed in the dining room. I was told they had smoking and no smoking sections. I knew the dining rooms on Carnival were all no-smoking, so we booked another Carnival cruise. Within a few years, even RC banned smoking in the dining rooms. I know I am in the minority because everysmoker that posts here seems to want to quit. Not me. I like smoking. I admit it loud and clear. I have not been shamed in to pretending that i am a want to be nonsmoker. But alas I will smoke only where it is allowed. It I were ever to become a multibillionair I would start a cruiseline for smokers.

I would love to have smoking in the lounges too, but that isn't going to happen so I smoke where it is allowed only. I must admit that I am tired of the holier than thou attitude of the anti-smokers. We have so few places now, just let us be. I cruise with non smokers and they never complain about me smoking where it is allowed and I never smoke in our shared room.
