Need dive operator in Grand Cayman

Recommended Posts

I will be on RCCI May 31st, arriving in Grand Cayman on June 2nd. We will arrive at 7:00 but will not be docked. We leave at 4:00 which probably means the last tender is around 3 to 3:15.

I need to know what dive operators anyone has used and their likes or dislikes.

Some offer North, South, East or West diving choices. The North one seems to be the most expensive. Is there something really great to see or what?

I am trying Neptunes Divers in June. They run an 8 diver maximum boat, have been very quick to respond to e-mails and seem perfectly happy to deal with a diver off of a cruise ship.

I was just there Apr 3rd and we used Ambassador Divers. It was a $4 per person cab ride (5min) to the shop then they had a boat out on 7 mile beach. We were told to meet at the shop at 8am, by 8:20 we were on the boat on the way to the site, by 8:30 we were diving.

The boat only takes divers 8 max. They were recommended by 2 other dive operations I contacted who did not deal with cruise passengers. And it was a great trip, good dives. Watch for the half dollar size jellyfish near the surface.

And they drove us back downtown and dropped us off by the terminal.

We're booked with Neptunes Divers (www.neptunesdivers.com). We were supposed to dive with them on our February 2010 cruise but our itinerary got switched at the last minute and Grand Cayman was dropped. We really wanted to dive with Neptunes Divers so we've booked another cruise for October 2010 which includes Grand Cayman and we're going to give it another try.

Good Luck and Safe Diving

Hey Terri!

It was great to meet you on the Monarch awhile back!

If you want a boat dive, we had a really good trip with Casey and Keith at Neptune's Divers. They go off of the beach, so you have to hump your gear down the beach and out into the water. Also, take a taxi, and don't bother waiting for the bus to fill on the way back. http://www.neptunesdivers.com/

Last time we were there, Keith and I did a shore dive at Sunset House, which was pretty nice, and really convenient. http://www.sunsethouse.com/

Zip me an E-mail if you have a minute.

  • 2 months later...

I enjoyed my two tank dive with Neptunes Divers June 22, 2010.

I misunderstood the meeting point directions a little bit which almost made me miss the dives so I just wanted to clarify for others.

The dive boat usually pulls up to the beach just to the right of Calico Jacks on Sea Grape beach. However on some days, they pick you up by van at the beach and drive you to the dive boat. In this situation, you are instructed to wait at the picnic benches and look for Casey. Unfortunately, I was waiting at the picnic benches at Public Beach immediately adjacent to Sea Grape Beach rather than the picnic benches at Calico Jacks and almost did not hook up with Casey.

In short, sit at Calico Jacks on Sea Grape and look for the dive boat to your right or for a woman with a Neptunes Divers shirt on.

I found the local bus a quite convenient way to get to the meeting point and back at a cost of $2.50 each way.

We have used Divers Down both for our cruise stop in February this year and also we went and stayed a week in April and dove almost every day using Divers Down again. They were always on time, staff was knowledgeable and courteous, prices reasonable. A plus is that the dive shop is a VERY short walk from the pier that the tenders come in from the cruise ship, and by short I mean like 2 minutes?
