taxis in Barcelona

We are a family of 5 (kids aged 10, 14 and 16) - will we be able to hail a taxi large enough for all of us, or will we have to take 2 cabs?

There are vans available. Your biggest issue will be luggage. That is what will decide if you need 1 taxi or 2. Take along a print out of your hotel address and phone number in case your cab driver doesn't speak much English and you don't speak Spanish.

We had 7 in our group. We used 2 taxis from the airport to our hotel, then one minivan from the hotel to the airport. The driver strapped some of our luggage to the roof and we all fit in one.

Do you recall what price you paid from the airport to the hotel? Do you pay a surcharge for luggage?

I can't remember, but I think it came to about 10 to 12 Euros each. Yes, there was a surcharge for the luggage. We had to leave our hotel at 6 am and the driver was there waiting for us at 5:45. He was very prompt.
