Accommodation in Odessa prior to River Cruise

Wanting to spead a few days in Odessa prior to Viking Cruise Footsteps of the Cossacks. Any suggestions for accommodation.?

We are staying at Chornoye More (Black Sea) on 59 Rishelyevskaya St

The price seems to be right and I have stayed there before 2 years ago

(That said of coourse there are some who hated it, but it seems on the overall it scores about 3.5-4 out of 5)

 

The cheapest prices we found were on Travelocity

 

of the others - Londonskaya & Mozart are good but expensive. I would not venture out into "resort" areas (Arkadia, Bolshoi Fontan, Luzanovka, etc) as they are pretty far from Center City and you'll need some transporation to get to and from every day

Should have asked what sightseeing are you doing when you are there precruise.? You mentioned you had been there before, are there any safery concerns?

No more "safety concerns" as in any other large city no matter where one is.

 

Just use "usual caution" - be alert & aware of your surroundings, dont dress flashy or flash lots of $$$$ and you'll be fine. :)

Hi Spree,

a little bit confused about your time line, but most seasoned people

hire apartments. They are cheaper than hotels, secure, come fully

equipped, with the kitchen fully equipped, bed linen, fridge and microwave (you can buy

ready-made meals at the supermarket and heat them), cable TV with

English channel, phone, washing machine. It's a great alternative for the hotels,

cheaper, much more comfortable.

For sightseeing, I do not know your budget. Besides the centre,

Potemkin staircase, Sobornaya square with alternative art, Opera

House, Wax Museum with Auntie Utya, people

visit catacombs, Belgorod fortress (built at 12 century), and most

brave venture into a rewarding Sofyivka park.

You can swim with the dolphins in Odessa, too. Arcadia is an

interesting place to visit, a beach with a lot of nightclubs, each

built by theme (Greek temple, Aztek temple and so on).

there are plenty of little cafes with WI-FI around, cozy and neat, who do standard breakfast for 3-4 dollars

Is it against the board policy to recommend apartments? Why is it OK to recommend a hotel, but not an apt rental company? I reread the FAQs, but did not find anything about this rule. Unless it is against policy, I would also like to see your suggestion. Thanks!

That is why.

They have apartments directly from the owners, so when you arrive, your landlady meets you

and give you the key, no extra fees for company and such.

They give you the address of your apartment before you arrive, you

can list it on your immigration form.

They are flexible: you can order an airport transfer, or you can use

the address that they sent to you in both languages in a separate

file - you print it out, at the airport show to any taxi driver, and

he brings you to your apartment directly.

They speak English, so if you need something, you can call from your

apartment phone directly and get help for free.

The apartment is fully equipped, with fluffy towels and linen and

everything, you should bring only your toiletries (toilet paper

included). It's like walking in into your own place - forks, plates,

knives, you name it, curtains, chairs, tables, it's all yours to use, and it's clean.

The maid come once a week if you stay for more than one week, free.

There are English channels on TV, depends on the cable company which

serves the building, but there will be BBC and CNN for sure, so you

will know what's going on.

For what they charge in hotels for snacks, you can buy a sack of

snacks in the local supermarket and eat till you drop.

You can eat out or eat in, as you wish.

If you want to eat in, you can buy ready meals in any supermarket and

heat them home, and eat in front of your TV!

They have a big couch in the living room, and it can be converted

into a sleeping place, if needed.

You come and go as you wish, no one cares.

They send you an English speaking person when you arrive, and this

person shows you around, complimentary, showing you supermarkets,

cafes main street. You pay nothing for it.

Everything is within the walking range.

You will have air conditioner, and a water tank which collects

water (in Odessa, water is scarce, but since you have a water tank

you will have it day and night regardless).

Electricity and water are included, you do not pay extras (unless you

made a flood and never switched the lights, of course).

You save a lot on accommodation and hotel snacks and can use your

money for something else.

Hello Spree,

forgot to mention, that you can go on a little boat cruise, along the

shore from the sea port to Arcadia beach. It's a fantastic trip, and I

just came back from it, but went only along the shore, it's May and

they do not go all the way to Arcadia yet. You will see all of the

Odessa from the sea! It costs about 9 US dollars per person.

And Arcadia is very interesting. I am posting the

photos of my trip, check them.

I posted a photo of a cafe which serves

breakfasts for about 2.90 US, and you will like the photos of Costa

Marina.

Enjoy your trip, hope you will like this city.
