are water shoes necessary?

Recommended Posts

I generally don't wear them as I tend to go barefoot whenever I can year-round anyway (yes, even in the winter ... no I'm not a hippie). If I do need something like that, I have Teva sandals and dive socks. I much prefer the Teva sandals to water shoes as they have actual arch support.

We are planning on spending the day at Paradise Beach in Cozumel, would you recommend them there? If there is a rocky/coral bottom then I would like to be prepared, but if it's a sandy bottom I would prefer to be shoeless. :)

I would have water shoes at Paradise Beach. Some places are rocky.

I also wanted to know whether I had to purchase water shoes for my Dolphin Swim in Chankanaab Cozumel, I contacted them by e mail and their answer was that you are not allowed to wear themwhen interacting with the dolphins. The beaches are another story....
