happyfaerie Posted April 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2010 Hi All, We are 3 adults and a 20 month ld baby. we are cruising on the NCL and will be in Nassau from 8am-6pm. Looking to do the pool and the beach. Hubby prefers Atlantis even though the Sheraton and the BCH seem really nice and convenient. Looking at the Comfort Suites rate after all of their ridiculous fees and charges, we are looking at almost 300 dollars, maybe slightly more. i know their are Famers discounts and AAA but despite that, the rate is still pretty high. I see on Atlantis website that they have a $315.00 rate. Not much more than comfort suites and I wouldnt have to deal with a different hotel. Plus if the baby needs a nap, I can walk around the aquarium with the stroller or even take him up to the room while my family enjoys the rest of the amenities. My questions are: 1)- Do you think Atlantis will have an issue with us checking in and out the same day? 2)- Do you think Atlantis will have an issue giving us wristbands as soon as we arrive, even if they dont have rooms ready? 3)- Does this sound like a crazy idea? LOL Any advice, tipes, etc.. would be great!

But be aware, Atlantis charges those same outrageous fees and surcharges, they are just hidden differently. Make sure your RATE includes the 12 % resort taxes and levy as well as housekeeping, energy surcharge etc etc etc.
happyfaerie Posted April 26, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted April 26, 2010 Thank you! I can def see why you are a legend around these parts! So awesome! Scuba- if I call the resort directly, they should be able to tell me if the rate is all inclusive over the phone, right? thanks C

Scuba- if I call the resort directly, they should be able to tell me if the rate is all inclusive over the phone, right? thanks C technically, yes, but Atlantis is not known for it's customer service. If you call 3 times, you'll likely get 3 different answers. Here's a trick. Find you base rate, add 14% tax. If the bottom line is more that the rate plus the tax, then it's likely that the surcharges are included. If it is just the 2 number added together, then surcharges will be added when you check out. LESLIEKURZ Posted April 27, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I thought this might be the better route too vs. the excursion thru RCL but the cheapest room ended up being $400.00 plus taxes. On top of that there is a substantial if you have more than two in your group. For our group of four there just wasn't a savings but of course our day in Nassau is a Saturday in the Spring so that might be why.
youngestof9 Posted April 27, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2010 quick question though - if you rent a room without saying it's a "day room", what time can you check in?? That might put a wrench in it.

That might put a wrench in it. You can check in any time, but your room may not be ready until 3pm. They will give you your card to bring to Atlantis when ever you check in. The Towel Hut at Atlantis, where you get our wristbands, opens at 9am. waterpark opens at 10am. You can check in and check out at the same time if you don't want to come back later to check out. Lots of people do it this way if they don't intend on using the room to freshen up.
whenisthemidnightbuffet? Posted April 27, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 27, 2010 I booked directly with Atlantis for this day trip too, but How do you independently travel from the boat pier (will be going on June 30th with NCL) to Atlantis and how much does it cost each way? Our Boat is leaving at 6PM and should I be concerned with traffic around that time? Thanks.
happyfaerie Posted April 27, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted April 27, 2010 whenisthemidnightbuffet- i heard the traffic on the bridge can get very crowded so you should leave plenty of time for the trip back. we are taking a taxi. i hear its about $22.00 each way for 4 ppl. Also- what rate did you end up getting for your room? when i called it was a different price then theyr online site. when i asked why, the reservationist said "i dont know, it shouldnt be that way and if i were u id book online" LOL. The oline rate via atlantis site was 412 for 4 ppl but the over the phone rate was over 500. BIG DIFF!
whenisthemidnightbuffet? Posted April 28, 2010 #10 Share Posted April 28, 2010 The casino comped my room so we only had to pay the hotel taxes, etc. came to $50 for the two of us. As far as transportation from the ship the hotel told me it was about $20/$25 dollars each way. A co-worker told me that when she went to Atlantis in November with her family (they booked the dolphin encounter through their cruise) that the taxis at the hotel told her it would be $25 per person to get back to the ship and she said that they were quoting that price to everyone outside the hotel who wanted to return to the pier. She said since it was 4 of them she was not paying $100 for the taxi so instead they took the shuttle (that was included in their excursion) back but was upset because she wanted to stay at Atlantis for a few more hours and the last shuttle was at 4 PM (their boat wasn't leaving until 10PM). I never paid that much from Atlantis back to thsip any of the times I went. Heard the page.. the rate from Atlantis to the port should be $10 for the first 2 ppl, and $3 for each add'l person. (This is for a regular cab) Some VANS fill up with $4-5 per person. Going OVER the bridge, from Port to Atlantis is the same price.. but you pay an additional $1 per vehicle for the toll. happyfaerie Posted April 28, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted April 28, 2010 thanks Subagirrl. DO you believe we are STILL undecided between Atlantis and the Hilton. UGH!
scubagirrl Posted April 28, 2010 #14 Share Posted April 28, 2010 thanks Subagirrl. DO you believe we are STILL undecided between Atlantis and the Hilton. UGH! these are exact opposite experiences. Atlantis is huge, garish, and over the top with hordes of kids, running and squealing around the pools and slide. Faux rocks, man made lagoons, fake, fake, fake. There is nothing bahamian about this experience. You could be anywhere. Hilton is small, quiet, serene and relaxing, and children are NOT allowed to run and splash in the pools. Hilton is an historic landmark, renovated to maintain the same style and grace as it's history. it's a no brainer for me. I'm a Hilton fan. whenisthemidnightbuffet? Posted April 29, 2010 #15 Share Posted April 29, 2010 After reading all of the posts on CC I think I've decided to change my plans. Even though Atlantis is basically free with the comp, I've been there and done that (however, if you have never been it certainly is a must do as it is unique) and have heard such great things about Day at the beach at Blue Lagoon! Why not check that out.
