DebbieH103 Posted May 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2010 I am going with my friend, Cinzia, the Italian hotel manager from Sandals Emerald Bay. It is her first time to sail, and she has not been to any of these islands. Dominica is the only new port for me. I am very excited to get back on the ship and this time in warm waters. flag fan Posted May 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2010 I'll be on board. It will be my first Silverseas cruise and after reading all the great posts about this cruise line, I'm really looking forward to it. I will be sailing solo. I'm glad you started the Roll Call. After reading the poll about whether or not Silversea should have its own roll call thread, it occurred to me that I had not seen any roll calls for this cruise. Well, now we've got one. Thank you, ging466.

DebbieH103 Posted June 1, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 1, 2010 We will be boarding in Barbados after doing the Silversea free air. Cinzia is coming from Miami (after arriving from Exuma where she resides), and I will come from Houston. I, at first took the air credit, but since the ship is overnighting in Barbados anyway, I figured it was crazy not to take the free air. Only Dominica is new for me, but most, if not all of the ports are new for Cinzia. She has never sailed on any ship, either. I loved Silver Spirit on the maiden voyage, and I am anxious to enjoy this sailing. Last time, I got off in Lisbon. I hope those of you joining there enjoy all your days aboard before us. I am really encited about this trip, though I do envy those w/ itineraries not so port intensive.
flag fan Posted June 1, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 1, 2010 It's nice to hear good things about the Spirt from someone who was on the inaugural. For me, Dominica is the only port on the itinerary I've been to, so I'm looking forward to exploring Barbados, St. Barts, St. Kitts, and Bequia. I agree that those Transatlantics are wonderful. I'll be doing one this August on the Queen Mary 2 (and can't wait to get on board).
ging466 Posted June 2, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted June 2, 2010 I'm looking forward to the list of excursions. Is there anything that is a must-see or must-do on our itinerary? Is the snorkelling very good in the Caribbean? I'm not sure whether I should bring my mask & snorkel with me. Cheers Jennifer
cechase Posted June 2, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 2, 2010 If I can jump in here - hope all of you have a great cruise. As you are arriving to board the Spirit, they will be throwing me off of the vessel! For those on the other Roll Call - Lisbon to Barbados - and you are flying from Barbados, and wish to fly business class - the seats are filling up. I have already booked my American Airlines flight from Barbados to JFK in business - so one more seat gone. Figure that late bookers will be disappointed. I stay over night at JFK and then fly back to Reno with one stop in Denver. Looking forward to meeting Jennifer and our roll call gang on Oct 22nd at the Marriott in Lisbon. St Kitts: Sea Trek Helmet Dive For those of u who have been to St Vincent & the Grenadines, is it worth going on the Mustique excursion? I was wondering what happened to this Roll Call, and here it is with some useful information. Thank you for posting. I'm avoiding all underwater and in the air excursions, so I won't be on the Aerial Tram or the Helmet Dive; hopefully someone will write in with their experiences on the various excursions, including for St. Barts and St. Vincent. DebbieH103 Posted July 21, 2010 #16 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hi, all. I am glad to see this back up at the top. I was going to get it back up here this week, but someone beat me to it. Jennifer, in St. Barths, we had a great excursion with SS where we rode ATVs. We got to see a lot of the island and take lots of pics. It was tons of fun. Dominica is the only new port for me, and I am considering that tram, but I have not decided yet. There is a chance I may now be doing this sailing solo, but I hope not. I'll have an update on August 5. In St. Kitts, I went to the Marriott and Todd played golf. When we went to Bequia, we hired a driver and had a lovely tour. In Barbados, we went to Sandy Lane, and he golfed while I went and had a lovely spa day. I took the free air, and I am flying into Miami a day early and overnighting there. I have not booked a hotel, but SS was kind enough to let me arrive in time to enjoy the day there vs. getting in at 10 pm and dragging to a hotel for 5 or 6 hours. flag fan Posted July 22, 2010 #17 Share Posted July 22, 2010 Anyone booked any excursions yet? Interested to hear what u are all doing. Cheers Jennifer I signed up for the ATV tour on St. Barts largely because of the good reviews about this excursion on this board and the High Tea on St. Vincent (although I am not sure about this one). Silversea and both ports are new to me so I'm not really sure what's best, but I generally like to book excursions through the ship so I've also booked some sightseeing tours of the islands. DebbieH103 Posted July 22, 2010 #18 Share Posted July 22, 2010 The ATV was just wonderful. St. Kitts was fairly Americanized, and I will likely do the same thing and get a cab to the casino again there. Bequia was small, and the local driver showed us a lot of stuff and was willing to take us exactly to where we wanted to go and make it the amount of time wanted to be gone. We do a lot of ship tours, too, but we never worry about anything in the Caribbean and feel comfortable out on our own. I hadn't even looked at the tea party this time. I did consider that before but forgot about it.
ging466 Posted July 22, 2010 Author #19 Share Posted July 22, 2010 Thankx Debbie & flagfan for the suggestion....I'll take another look at the ATV excursion. Since there are only a few of us on this roll call, have a think as to where we can all meet up. I don't think I need to organise a party, do u? ging466 Posted July 22, 2010 Author #20 Share Posted July 22, 2010 Has anyone tried the ziplining in St Kitts? I'm tossing up between it and the Helmet dive...can't make up my mind. Cheers Jennifer
DebbieH103 Posted July 24, 2010 #21 Share Posted July 24, 2010 I am usually at trivia late afternoon, and it is in the lobby bar. I'll know on August 5 if Cinzia is coming or if I am going solo... I am not sure how many excursions I am doing since I have been everywhere but Dominica and I have 5 trips left this year. I do hope to get back to Sandy Lane and the casino in Marriott, St. Kitts. DebbieH103 Posted July 24, 2010 #22 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Flag Fan, what did you end up doing for Dominica?
flag fan Posted July 24, 2010 #23 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Debbie H103 -- For Dominica, I've signed up for the Accessible Dominica and Rainforest Drive. I've been there once before and vaguely remember a lot of driving up and down hills and going to see some waterfall (Trafalgar Falls, I think) after walking up a lot of wooden steps and platforms, so I'm hoping this tour is a little different. I'm not that sure about this tour, but it includes gardens, which I don't remember seeing before, and is only 3 hours, so its not too long. I considered the Hidden Treasures and Carib Indians tour, but that's 6 hours and I try to avoid the long tours that take up the whole day. I also thought about the Volcanic Adventure (but that includes the Trafalgar Falls, which I've already seen, I may still switch though ) or the Whale and Dolphin Sightings, which is an afternoon tour, so I might do it as well as the morning tour (I'll probably wait until I'm on board before I decide on that). The alternative is taking no tours and just wandering around town. The tour I took last time I was on Dominca was interesting, but nothing that I can use to give a recommendation to others on what to do on the island. It was a different line (I think Celebrity) and nothing I can think of as a "must see."
DebbieH103 Posted July 25, 2010 #24 Share Posted July 25, 2010 I have been considering the volcanic adventure. I do want to see some falls, and I do not want to drag around for a whole bunch of hours, either. I like the Spirit, and I am looking forward to being onboard in someplace warm vs. the maiden where it was a bit cool.
DebbieH103 Posted August 8, 2010 #25 Share Posted August 8, 2010 Now that this cruise is paid in full, it seems more real. Irishteddybear, maybe we have seen your uncle before. Jennifer, I am looking hard at the aerial tram since you see 5 waterfalls, not sure if my companion can do the heights. Other choices are the various waterfall treks. I am wondering if they are more upclose and personal. I have always wanted to do the tram, though. My companion has now changed. Cinzia sadly cannot come, and yesterday, the wonderful people at Silversea endured a name change with me on this cruise on a Saturday during final payment. I hope Cinzia can join me in May, as she is Italian and has never sailed on ANY ship. I still hope to meet everyone. We are doing the free air since we booked last year, and we are leaving from Houston on November 5 and overnighting (at our own expense) in Miami. SS allowed us to take a morning flight so we could enjoy our hotel in Miami for the day and then continue on in the a.m. to Barbados where we do not get in until 1:25. Last time we were in Barbados, we spent a day at Sandy Lane. I'd love to do that again, but we did spend some $$$ there last time.
